Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce and Mount Dora Yacht Club host the 14th Annual Sailing Regatta on Lake Dora this Sunday with 19 classes. First race at 10 am and another at 1 pm. spectators welcome free.

Governor Claude Kirk designates April as Cancer Control Month urging all ages to join Crusade efforts. More than 65,000 volunteers statewide educate the public on Cancer's 7 Danger Signals and the need for early detection. Fred B. The Mount Dora Lodge 238 F and A M celebrated 50 years since chartering with over 200 attendees. Alfred Rehbaum Sr and James W. Simpson received Fifty Year Pins, Simpson’s pin accepted by his nephew. Mount Dora High swims at Sanford meet seeks State qualification

Mount Dora High School swimmers travelled to Sanford for the second meet of the season. Coach Jim Jackson aims to have experienced swimmers qualify for the State Meet. Kathy Cox Trina Pinkston Barbara Ormischer and others placed in events with several second and third places. Tim Bowman led the boys with a first in the 50 freestyle as teammates also earned medals in relay and individual events.

Florida Industries Exposition to Open in Orlando

The sixth annual Florida Industries Exposition runs April 18 to 21 at the Central Florida Fairgrounds Orlando. Officials say it gathers large and small manufacturers, educators, government officials, and buyers from across the state and abroad for seminars workshops and a big showcase of Florida products. Russell H. Nahm serves as executive vice president with Don Rathel heading the Florida Defense Space Industries Assn. and the Inventors Congress also featured. The event is supported by multiple state and local agencies and organizations including the Florida Development Commission and the City of Orlando.

Police Ambulance Makes First Run

Mount Dora Police Department reports their first emergency call with the new ambulance patrol wagon. A passerby saw a grass-cutting tractor driver unconscious and headed toward an embankment on Old US 441. Patrolman Dick Martin administered oxygen and rushed the driver to Mount Dora Clinic where doctors diagnosed over-exertion.
