Evansville Otters split opening weekend with Schaumburg Boomers at Bosse Field. Chris Sweeney delivered a walk-off home run in the 11th to cap a 4-3 win after Schaumburg tied it in the ninth. Josh Allen drilled a two-run homer and Rolando Gomez added an RBI single to stake Evansville to a 3-1 edge before the rally. Mount Carmel Middle School sent boys and girls squads to the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association state meet in Carterville. Elijah Laws led the boys with a fifth in shot put and a second in discus, while Elliot Laws placed third in discus and Satchel Patberg added a ninth in high jump. Maya Smith starred for the girls with a pair of top three finishes including second in the 110 meter hurdles and a third in the 200. The girls also produced eighth in the 100 and seventh in the 4x200, with Haley Wright high jumping and Guard contributing to the 4x100.
