The Wabash District 348 board unanimously voted to place a one percent county school facility sales tax on the November general election ballot. Funds would benefit District 348 and Allendale District 17 for construction, facilities, and safety projects while excluding purchases like vehicles, food, and salaries.

At the county commissioner meeting administrator Cindy Poland announced the Wabash County Health Department has received 63000 from the state under the Monthly Home Connection Grant fulfilling its annual obligation. The state has not yet paid funds owed for crisis services.
Ber tis Paul Hardiman III of Princeton Indiana was sentenced May 16 to 18 years in the Illinois Corrections system on each of three counts of home invasion to be served concurrently by Judge Michael Molt. He was arrested Oct. 23 2015 for a Sept 21 2015 home invasion at 713 N Mulberry St where he entered a residence occupied by Maria A Gerberg and Katherine G Breindenbach while armed. The residents returned home with two unidentified males and were threatened with bodily harm. It is reported Hardiman threatened two unidentified males and Breindenbach with imminent force.
Mount Carmel Police responded to a two vehicle crash at Route 1 and Poor Farm Road at 5:52 p.m. on May 15. No injuries were reported. traffic halted in both lanes for about 40 minutes. Derek M. Sutton of Bellmont tried to turn left onto Poor Farm Road and hit Kelly A. Harris of Lawrenceville who was traveling south.
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville completed the 2016 Spring Commencement for 1,850 eligible graduates on May 6 and 7. Notable Mount Carmel grads include Allison Rue Art and Ravyn Rodgers Art both earned bachelor degrees, with Sarah Shepard Nursing Cum Laude and Thomas Teague Physics Summa Cum Laude. Local grads span Allen, Bridgeport, Fairfield with degrees in nursing, physics, communications, social work and business administration.
