Illinois Army sergeant dies in Afghanistan incident
The Defense Department reports Staff Sgt. Christopher A. Wilbur of Granite City Illinois died Friday in Kandahar Afghanistan in a noncombat incident. He was 36 and assigned to the 1st Battalion 12th Infantry Regiment 2nd Brigade Combat Team 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson Colorado.

The St Clair County Historical Society museum received several boxes of memorabilia from the late U.S. Senator Allen Dixon. His widow donated scrapbooks handwritten notes from President Ronald Reagan and campaign buttons.

Mount Carmel police arrest multiple for domestic incidents and warrants
Between Aug. 9 and Aug. 12 Mount Carmel officers arrested Shannon W. Brimm for aggravated domestic battery and violation of an order of protection after a Poplar Court dispute. Melinda D Emery faced domestic battery charges after a Cherry Street fight. Derrick D Burdette, sought on a Gibson County warrant for battery causing serious injury, was arrested on Second Street. Shawn Swift and Ashley N Pierson, both Mount Carmel residents, were jailed on warrants for failure to appear. Cynthia K Frayser Reed was detained after a domestic dispute and held for bond. David M Blanchette was charged with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct after a disturbance at Brewsky's, held on 150 bond.
