Funeral for Joel Mabe Held at Pilot Mountain Friends Meeting
The 59 year old Joel Malcomb Mabe of Pilot Mountain died Thursday evening at Western North Carolina Sanatorium in Black Mountain after a period of declining health. A native of Stokes County he was the son of William and Annie Bondurant Mabe. Survived by his wife Hallie Simmons Mabe four sons and six sisters and a brother. Burial in Skyline Memory Gardens.

Carroll Native Mrs Snow Buried Sunday
The funeral for Mrs Florrie Payne Snow 65 of route 1 Mount Airy was held at 2 o clock Sunday at Moody Funeral Home chapel. She died Thursday morning at Northern Surry Hospital. A Carroll County Virginia native she was the daughter of Byrd and Lena Payne cr and wife of J Morgan Snow. Surviving include her husband a son J M Snow Jr and a daughter Mrs Bill Carpenter both of Mount Airy a brother John Payne of Riveland Mississippi and sisters Mrs Myrtle Matthews Galax Virginia Mrs Etta Dickerson and Stella Payne of Woodlawn. Also noted are local social items about Beverly Neal and Jane Loften visiting or staying with relatives.

George George earns M-14 Rifle Expert rating
Army Cpl. John M. George son of Mr and Mrs J B George route 2 Westfield qualified as expert in firing the M-14 rifle at Fort Hood Texas. The 24 year old gunner with Battery B 1st Battalion 3rd Artillery of the 2nd Armored Division entered the Army in December 1963 and had basic training at Fort Gordon Georgia. He was last stationed at Fort Sill Oklahoma and is a 1959 Francisco High School graduate who also attended Oak Ridge Military Institute.
