Blood shortage alarm as Surry programs plead for donors
Red Cross officials warn Surry County faces a severe blood shortage after months of under collection. May used 246 pints, the highest since February fire, while from July 1966 to May 1967 total donations were 1 966 pints against 1 911 pints used locally. Blood units will visit Mount Airy Junior High to collect pints for the Charlotte regional bank. all types in short supply.

The local National Guard company returned to the Armory after a two week field encampment at Fort Bragg as part of annual training. Deatherage Funeral Held for 49 Year Old Man
Charles Ray Deatherage 49 of 369 South Main Street died Saturday. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel. He was a retired hosiery mill fixer born in Mount Airy to Frank and Lilla Frye Deatherage. Survived by son Edward Deatherage of Roanoke Virginia and brothers Roy of Route 3 Airy and Jackie of Mount Airy. Burial followed at Oakdale Cemetery.
