Showiest Flowers Blooming In North Carolina's Mountains
North Carolina mountain flower parade advances across the Great Smoky Mountains, Pisgah and Nantahala forests, and along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Catawba rhododendron, pink and white mountain laurel, and flame azaleas lead a seasonal bloom reaching elevations up to 6,684 feet. Peak dates vary by altitude, with key displays at Craggy Gardens, Roan Mountain, and Grandfather Mountain through mid to late June. The 16th annual Rhododendron Festival opens June 14–15 in Bakersville with pageants and coronations, while laurel blooms intensify in Pink Beds area by June 10.
