A Mount Airy man Jimmy Weldon Queen, 33, shot and killed his wife at a local church then killed himself after pursuing her as she fled the building. Police say the double tragedy occurred early Friday.

Bridge repair shuts Haystack Road near Dobson this June
The North Carolina Department of Transportation will close Haystack Road from Blevins Store Road to Isaacs Road on June 13 for about a month to repair the Fisher River bridge. Man Charged in Double Fatal Pedestrian Crash
A 70 year old man and his 10 year old grand niece died after a car driven by James M Flippen of Fancy Gap Va struck them on Maple Grove Road in Mount Airy late Friday. Flippen faces DUI and two counts of manslaughter and posted bond.
