Value of Cowpeas for Farmers and Rotations
Farmers are urged to plant every available acre of cowpeas as a valuable multipurpose crop. Peas provide human food and stock forage, with hay and seed worth substantial sums per acre. They improve soil humus, moisture retention, and nitrogen through atmosphere fixation, while depleting phosphates and potash, which should be supplied in fertilizer. Similar points apply to beans with slight advantages in stock feed and drought tolerance.
