Robert Phyrus Jessup 55 of Airy route 6 White Springs section died Monday at Northern Cay Hospital from an accidental self inflicted gun discharge. He kept a .25 automatic at his beer parlor on Highway 103 between Mount Airy and Flat Rock. He leaned over the steering wheel to reach the pistol and cash box when it discharged. safety was not locked. Surviving include his wife Ida Mae, a son Joe Glenn, four daughters Ed Brown Charles Clement Holtville Calif Bill D Halli val Henry Taylor, mother Ada Jackson Jessup, three brothers Jim Frank Bill, a sister Mrs Walter Linville, and 12 grandchildren. Funeral at Westfield Baptist Church. Burial Oakdale Cemetery.

James Bray Injured At Bray's Flour Mill
James Russell Bray, working with his father at Bray's Flour Mill, nearly lost a finger after it was caught in a belt pulley on Saturday. He received skin grafts at the local hospital and remained hospitalized four days. He had previously lost a finger at 18 when his class ring snagged on an awning rod near Poore's Grocery.
