Services pending at a local church conducted by Rev. Burial in the family cemetery.

Most Mount Airy retail stores will close Wednesday and Thursday, January 1 and 2, for New Year observance. Federal, state and local agencies also close. The First National Bank, Surry County Loan and Trust Co, Workmen's Federal Savings and Loan, and Mount Airy Savings and Loan will be closed January 1. Regular schedule resumes Friday.

Local Folks Injured In Wreck Near King
Three persons were injured in a six car crash about one mile north of King on US 52. Vallie War reng of Mount Airy was admitted with leg ankle and shoulder fractures. Others treated and released included Betty Blackmon Emma Bunker Zack Blackmon Jr and Tanya Blackman all of Mount Airy. Damages totaled at least 2750. Venable Chilton and Smith were cited for traffic offenses.

Ex-Surry Man Killed at Sanford
James Moser Scott, 80, of Sanford and native of Surry County, was shot to death Sunday night at the home of W Cornelius Tetterson in Sanford after a quarrel. Tetterson, in the dry cleaning business, said he could not remember firing the shot. He described the visitors as quarrelsome during drinking and said Scott refused to leave, threatening him.

Grandson of Local Woman Among National Merit Semifinalists

Windy Williamson Suffers Heart Attack
Robert Lawrence Windy Williamson operator of Williamson's Esso at Veterans Park is hospitalized at Northern Surry Hospital after a sudden heart attack on December 20. He was rushed to the hospital where he underwent immediate medical care.
