Surry G I Escapes Chinese Entrapment in Korea
Cpl. Ivan L. Bowman son of Mr and Mrs Ray Bowman Route 1 wrote home about the recent entrapment of his Seventh Division by Chinese forces near Changjin reservoir. After days of hardship only 11 men remained. on December 11 they evacuated to Hungnam and reached a Japanese hospital. Bowman enlisted 1948 and served in Japan with the First Cavalry before joining Korea duty in July 1950.

Mrs Addie Lee Jacobs and her daughter Carolyn 14 were severely burned at their Bannertown home when Carolyn’s clothing caught fire in front of an open fireplace at 10 p m Saturday. Mrs Jacobs tried to extinguish the flames and was burned on both hands and arms. Carolyn suffered burns to both arms, legs and other parts of the body.
