Westfield Youth Killed in Auto Crash Near Virginia Line
Jerry Dale Rogers 22 of Westfield East Carolina College student died in a single car crash about 12:50 a.m. Sunday near the Asbury community Stokes County after departing a service station at top speed. The vehicle a 1961 Chevrolet skidded 121 feet into three trees. Survived by parents Erastus Harvey and Lelia Hutchens Rogers and two sisters. Funeral at Asbury Presbyterian Church today at 2 with burial in the church cemetery.

A 20 year old Mount Airy resident fled police in a 1964 Chevrolet during the early Sunday hours. Pilot Mountain Officer Jies Thomas and State Highway Patrolman Frank Gillespie set a running road block on US 52 near Haymore Service Station. Clark fled onto Holly Springs Road, stopped after two miles, and was pursued on foot, where he was captured in pines. He faces reckless driving speeding 100 mph driving after license revocation and failure to stop for a blue light and siren. Trial is set in Pilot Mountain Recorder's Court.
