Surry Man Found Dead Below 30-Ft Bluff in Tenn
The decomposed body of Geo. Mosley Hatcher 79 of Pilot Mountain was found at a 30-foot bluff 28 miles southeast of Sparta Tennessee. A bus ticket Memphis to Pilot Mountain dated October 14 and another Memphis to Clinton Oklahoma were found on him. Foul play suspected as he left Pilot Mountain for Oklahoma with nearly $1000, only $44 recovered. Survived by three daughters five sons a sister two brothers and five grandchildren. Tennessee officers investigate.

The Mount Airy Tobacco Market ended the season last Friday after selling 1,500,000 pounds more than the prior year. Marshall OC, Fowler, sales supervisor, reported growers earned $2,500,000 more than in 1947. The market sold 13,206,834 pounds for $6,068,988.25 at an average $49.36 per hundred pounds.

Mrs. Mitchell Riddle Injured In Wreck Near Pilot Mountain
Mrs. Mitchell C. Riddie of Pilot Mountain was admitted to Mount Airy hospital in grave condition after a Tuesday night collision on the Pilot Mountain Elkin road. A stolen truck from Mount Airy Mantel and Table Company was abandoned near Level Cross and struck by the couple’s car after a blinded driver failed to dim lights. Mr. Riddle was treated and released, two children are noted in the household.

Carl is M Webb, 43, farmer, died at his sister Mrs. BE Morris’s Mount Airy home at 3 30 am Wednesday after months of illness. Born April 25 1905 in Carroll County Virginia to Alexander and Virginia Webb, he is survived by brothers Otis Hurley and Charlie Webb of Mount Airy and Quincy Webb of Danville and one sister Mrs Morris of Mount Airy. Funeral was held Thursday at 11 00 am at the Morris home conducted by Rev R Carrington Paulette. burial in Oakdale Cemetery.

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Florence Effie Lawson of the Quarry in Mount Airy at 7:30 p m Monday at the Church of God. Burial followed in the North Wilkesboro family plot after her death Saturday in a Winston-Salem hospital. She was the widow of Charles Lawson born August 5, 1804 in Ashe County. Surviving are her son Burien Lawson, a daughter in law, five grandchildren, a brother Cleve Long of Laurel, and two sisters Mrs Annie and Mrs Bilen.

Young Lawbreakers Held For Attempting Murder
Three Surry County youths are jailed in Dobson on $3,000 bond for attempting to kill Hubert Towe in Mount Airy after a dispute linked to a State witness. Towe, 23, was slashed with a pocket knife by Aldeen Byrd while Leroy Martin and James Young aided the assault, leaving Towe seriously wounded.
