Mount Airy schools anticipate one of the largest enrollments in history as plans for the new term proceed. The district will hold a special principals meeting September 5 and a general faculty session September 6 at the high school. Six year olds must have a birth certificate. children must be six by October 1. High school registrations run September 4 to 6, 9 to 3:30, with a book fee of four dollars.

Franklin adds two teachers to faculty and more bus seats

Mrs. Oscar Yokley aged about 43 died at home Monday after a long bout with cancer. She sought relief at Mayo Clinic and southern hospitals but was pronounced incurable. Station Raided For Second Time
Harley Dawson operator of the former Black Cat service station on the Pancy Gap highway near Mount Airy was arrested last Saturday during a liquor raid by Sheriff H. 8. Boyd and deputies. A pint of liquor was seized at the counter and more was found in a sink behind the counter. Dawson was released on a $5 bond to appear in court Tuesday.

Large Copper Still Destroyed Near Franklin Township
Last Tuesday afternoon officers Ramey and Desert of Lowgap located and destroyed a large copper still near Franklin and Stewarts Creek township line. The still was in full operation with a 24 gallon capacity. About 800 gallons of beer were cut down and three gallons of powdery mash found. No arrests were reported.

Gurney Roberson Dies in Richmond
Gurney W. Roberson son of the late W G Roberson died Thursday in Richmond Virginia after a heart attack. He worked in the insurance business with a North Carolina Virginia territory. His wife Ira Shelton was with him in Richmond. He was about years old and survived by his wife three children Billy 13 Bettyjo 8 and Graham 6 with his mother and several brothers and sisters. His remains will be brought to this city for burial with funeral arrangements unresolved.

Kerosene Robbery Hits Atlantic Refining Tank
Night burglars pried a lock on an Atlantic Refining tank near Mount Airy on the Dobson highway and carried off 40 gallons of kerosene. Police report notes a Yale lock was broken and no arrests have been made.
