Carl Baber of the Surry and Yadkin Counties Employment Commission said unemployment in Mount Airy and Elkin and Yadkin counties is at its lowest since July 1963. About 500 people total receive unemployment in the two counties, with 130 in Elkin and 50 in Yadkin. Placements rose to 120 in August, aided by aptitude tests for garment and textile mills.
