Patrick County will open a new health unit in Patrick VA around early October. Dr P Mayers health director announced the remodeling of a Main Street building, formerly a Stuart grocery, to include a waiting room two clinic rooms and offices for the director sanitarian nurse and clerk. Fannie McAlexander Thomas of Meadows of Dan will serve as health nurse and Ruben B Hudgins will be sanitarian with a Virginia Tech B S degree. The clerk position remains open with several candidates under consideration.

Edgar Merritt Brim drove a dump truck loaded with granite toward Lebanon Street on West Poplar when brakes failed. The vehicle crossed onto a yard at Sandy Simmons causing shrubbery to be torn up and drive debris scatter. No injuries were reported and the truck belonged to Carl B. Sutphin Land and Stone Company.

Woman Killed In Virginia Accident Near Harrisonburg
The accident four miles north of Harrisonburg on Route 11 at 1 30 p m left a 66 year old widow dead. Mrs Sally Layman stepped into the road and was struck by a Cadillac driven by Mrs Martin causing the car to skid into a fence. Mrs Martin and Mrs Sargent were taken to Rockingham Memorial Hospital for shock. Trooper Arrington ruled the crash unavoidable. The injured and affected parties received support from local residents and officials.
