Bodies Of Three Local Soldiers Are Returned

Cruise worked at the North Main Street Lunch before service. Johnson had just finished high school when drafted. his father T W Johnson is with Simmons and Virginia-Carolina warehouses in the city.

Lindsay H Swain Dies From Wreck Injuries
Lindsay H. Swain, 598, died at his Beckley West Virginia home last Thursday from injuries from a recent automobile wreck. He had lived in Beckley for 15 years and earlier resided in Mount Airy where he operated the Chero-Cola plant on North Main Street. The remains were interred in Winston-Salem.

Mount Airy officials pressed the state DMV over insufficient time for vehicle inspections before September 1. Frank Sydnor, new city commissioner, said the inspection lane did not stay long enough in Mount Airy and Surry County. The DMV requires models up to 1036 plus 1947 and 1948 to be inspected by September 1. Arrests for missing blue stickers may occur after September 10, with warning tickets issued between September 1 and 10.

Man Caught Stealing From Snow's Store
Local police officers C O Brinkley and J B Carlton arrested Thomas Jones 27 of Toast for breaking and entering after he was caught inside Grover Snow's store at the old cross roads in Toast about 1 o clock Thursday morning. He had tossed cartons of cigarettes from the window and was spotted when a passerby observed the burglar's feet enter the window. The sheriff arrived after Jones was captured.

Young Boy Hospitalized After Street Collision
