The Florida All-Size Boys Band of 105 players visited Mount Airy on their Florida bound return from Chicago. 127 people including chaperones and managers stayed for a supper at the Blue Ridge hotel and gave a concert on Main Street, drawing a large crowd and praise for the warm welcome.

Sudden Death of Prominent Citizen
News of the death of Mr. John Puller occurred in Martin Memorial Hospital about 3:30 Wednesday afternoon. He was 61 age and longtime meat market operator deeply involved in the community and the Odd Fellows. He is survived by his wife Sadie Portis Puller, two sons Max and Don Fuller, daughter Eunice Fuller, and sister Mrs Lillie M Buller. Funeral at First Baptist Church Friday at 3 PM with interment at Oakdale Cemetery. Rev L T Jacobs and Rev T H King to officiate. pallbearers listed.

Women travelers return from Canada trip in Cooper bus

Patrick County Buys Blue Ridge Academy
The Southern Presbyterian Mission Board will cease operating Blue Ridge Academy at The Hollow Virginia and lease the property to Patrick County for a county school system. The county will pay 500 dollars yearly for ten years and gain the school building principal’s home and about eight acres. The state school commission approved the lease and valued the property at about 25 000 dollars. Other area schools may consolidate next year.

Masons Close State Meet in City Visit
The Grand Lodge of Masons wrapped up a three day series of meetings led by Granite Lodge with a special third degree. Grand officers and district deputies attended from across the state, and a banquet for about 100 Masons was hosted by Eastern Star ladies.

Reverend H. G. Hardin Dies Suddenly in Greensboro
The Rev H Grady Hardin pastor of West Market Street Methodist Church Greensboro died after a heart attack Thursday morning. He was 43 serving his fourth year at the Greensboro church after earlier postings in Gastonia Charlotte and Monroe. Funeral arrangements not yet made.

Dr Hogan Arrested After Accident Picnic At Belk Event

War Veteran Dies In Elkin Hospital
Dexter Allen 26, son of Steve Allen of Carroll County, is jailed in Hillsville charged with fatally shooting Sam Dawson 37 at the Allen home. Dawson, a World War veteran with a wife and five children, died after being wounded August 14 and treated at Elkin hospital.

Masonic Concert to Benefit Oxford Orphanage

Playful act leads to shooting incident involving youths
Percy Rash aged 12 and Maben Harris aged 10 were at the Harris home when watermelon rind tossing led to Percy arming a shotgun and firing at Maben. A stray shot entered Maben’s eye and he's hospitalized in Elkin. Percy is held by jailer Jess Monday under juvenile court order to stay separate from adults.

Enrolling Office Finds 21 Jobs
