4 H Poultry Show and Sale at Dobson August 24
Seven 4-H Club members will exhibit and sell ninety eight New Hampshire pullets on the lawn of the Agricultural Building in Dobson on Wednesday August 24 at 2 50 p m. The pullets are six months old and bred for egg production. The Sears Foundation sponsors prizes to encourage youth in raising poultry. Pullets will be sold in lots of 14 by auction after the show.

Hospital Drive In Carroll County Is Abandoned
Carroll County citizens were told that plans for a Hillsville hospital have been postponed and the initial offer withdrawn. The drive aimed at 100000 failed with about 39287 pledged from 1400 pledge cards since July 8. The plan promised land and cash for a 50 bed hospital run non profit if interest sufficed. Pruett To Speak In California Grand Diamond Medal contest

Phone Company Seeks Approval to Sell Surry Lines
The Central Telephone Company asked the State Utilities Commission for authority to sell two rural lines to the Surry Telephone Membership Corporation. The lines connect Mount Airy to Francisco and Elkin to Mountain Park. The REA cooperative has contracted to pay $5,218 in total.

Funeral services for Patsy Jane Davis four-month-old daughter of Roy E and Annie Bryant Davis of Winston Salem were held at 10 a.m. Friday in the home with Rev. Neil Lightfoot officiating. Burial followed at Pine Ridge Cemetery. Born March 18 1955 she died Thursday morning at a Winston-Salem hospital after a weeklong illness. Rites Held For Perry Youth
Funeral services were held for 12 year old Johnnie Ray Perry of Mount Airy route 6 after a tobacco load toppled on him during loading. He died at Baptist Hospital Winston-Salem from head injuries sustained when the load shifted. Surviving are his parents John Ray and Lydia C. Night Blooming Cereus Attracts Many People
A plant that blooms only at night drew a large crowd to Miss Maggie Mc Craw on Junction Street Saturday night August 6. Her cereus opened four blooms this year versus one last year, each about 12 inches around and four inches in diameter, white with a center cradle and a star along the stem. Lester Enoch Fulk 64 of Dobson formerly of Pilot Mountain died Thursday at a Richmond Virginia veterans hospital after two years of declining health.
