Dobson Farmer Killed When Pole Crushed Worker
Hamby Lurry Corbin Hamby a 49 year old Dobson farmer died after a utility pole fell across him while unloading it from a truck near Mountain Park He and a tenant Robert Collins were using a tractor and chain to lift the 25 foot pole into an upright hole at Hamby s farm The coroner declared it an accident He was a native of Surry County and a member of Copeland Masonic Lodge He survived by wife Dovie Moore Hamby a daughter Sandra Alice Hamby two brothers Dan and Tom and a sister Elizabeth Wall The funeral was at Dobson Methodist Church with burial at Little Vine Primitive Baptist Cemetery
