Washington reports a decline in deaths from automobile accidents for last year per census bureau data. Total deaths reached 28 240 with a 23.6 per 100 000 rate, Utah excluded. Nevada led at 64.5, California 39.6, North Dakota 8.6, Mississippi 11.8.
The Baursville Parent-Teacher Association held a Friday session drawing a larger crowd than in two years. A membership drive added thirty-nine members to reach seventy-four total. Plans include a Halloween dance on October 31 and a push to recruit more members.
Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Filip of Shiner observed their 25th wedding anniversary on Saturday. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fehrenkamp and family. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Fehrenkamp and family. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Niebuhr and family. Mrs. Rudy Mueller and daughter. Mrs. Lee Wagner and daughter. Clarence and Leo Heinrich of Moulton. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Schultz and family of Wadsworth. Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Nachlinger and family. and Miss Ruth Pierson of Taylor.
James H. Strauss of Hallettsville, cotton statistician, informs The Eagle that 28 434 bales of cotton had been ginned in Lavaca County before October 1, compared with 12 709 bales at the same date last year.
Katherine Bozka age 70 died after several weeks illness in Shiner on Friday. Funeral held at Shiner Catholic Church with Rev Netardus officiating. Burial in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers listed. Survived by husband Henry and four children including J F Bozka. Locational history traces from Czechoslovakia to Nickel, Gonzales County, Moulton, then Shiner. The Eagle offers sympathy.
Mrs. G. J. Bohnenkamp and her son Henry Bohnenkamp were in San Antonio for a day, taking in local sights and events during a brief trip.

Mrs. Fred F. Fehrenkamp Mrs. W. H. Pundt Mrs. Lee Jarosek Mrs. Rudy Mueller and Mrs. Charles Lueke attended events in San Antonio last week Wednesday.
Miss Sophie Kubenka recently bought the Mrs John Krueger place in the southwestern town area and had the old home torn down to erect a bungalow on the site.
Mrs K V Darilek of near Moulton died in Shiner October 15 after a brief illness. Funeral held at home then St Josephs Church with burial in Moulton Catholic Cemetery. Survived by husband K V Darilek, two sons Edwin and Emil, daughter Mrs Jerry Maresh, one grandchild, grandchildren, and several siblings.
Marian Louise Wieting, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Wieting, was baptized at Zion's Lutheran Church with Rev. A. H. Falkenberg officiating. Sponsors included Edwin Lilie and several named ladies. Also noted are local visits and new Eagle reader Edward Bohuslav, plus social visits from Rev. H. T. Flachmeier and doctors to Cuero for a dental meeting.
Mrs J T Jaeggli and daughter Dorothy Jean traveled to Austin on Saturday to see Miss Annie Laurie a University of Texas student. They accompanied James back from Austin where he served as a page in the senate during the special legislative session.
Bridemaids were Martha Pelech Alice Wenske Agnes Firsek and Annie Pilat. Best men were Frank Jemelka Joe Wirsek Bill Faltisek and Fred Pilat. Flower girl Elenora Pilat and ring bearer Alvin Jemelka.
Friedrich Fritz Rogge a pioneer resident of Lavaca county died at his home in Shiner on Friday October 13 at age 87 years 9 months and 27 days. Funeral conducted by Rev Richard Schuetze with pallbearers Alfred and Hugo Stoeltje Eddie Mueller Erich Goesch Ben Riske and George Rogge. He was born in Oldenburg Germany immigrating to Texas in 1867 and lived in Austin county Witting and finally Shiner. Surviving are six children sixteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Officers elected include President F K Hrneir vice president Willie Wenske secretary Lillie Haleta treasurer Chas Hrneir reporter Evelyn Pustejovsky lamp tender Adolf Mikulik. Band music pleased members. sixty members had paid dues. next meeting set for the first Friday in November.

Survived by husband John Giesbers six children and many grandchildren. A mass meeting of farmers and business people of Moulton is set for Tuesday October 24 at 7:30 PM to discuss participation in Hallettsville county fair with county agents present. All citizens invited, special welcome for ladies.
Mrs J T Jaeggli entertained the 42 Club at her home last Thursday afternoon. Mrs Anton Kolar won the club prize, a set of hemstitched linen napkins, while Mrs Frank Bie hunko Jr received the guest prize, a jar of bath salts. Refreshments included tongue sandwiches pineapple salad saltines lemon pie salted nuts and iced tea.
The Department of Agriculture projects U S cotton production for 1988 at 12,885,000 bales in October forecast, up from 12,414,000 in September. The prior year's October forecast was 13,002,000 bales.
Fire at the William Fehler farm near Oak Grove destroyed the smokehouse on Friday night. The blaze damaged several bales of cotton and investigators have not determined the fire's origin.

Mrs. Amelia Brunner aged 57 died at home after a lingering illness in Flatonia Texas. She leaves her husband and several sons and daughters. Funeral services were held at the New Catholic Cemetery with Rev Father Pustka officiating from Sacred Heart Church.
Alfons Jalufka and Miss Viola Miculka united in marriage at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Tuesday morning with Rev. Joseph Kopp officiating. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Miculka of near Moulton, begins married life as a happy young couple.
Governor Miriam A. Ferguson signed a bill authorizing a state bank deposit insurance company. The plan insures deposits in state banks and takes effect January 1, 1934.
A large number of relatives and friends gathered at Ernest Zimmermanns home near Oak Grove on Tuesday October 10 to mark his 68th birthday anniversary. Refreshments were served and guests enjoyed the event.
