Ed Boehm's Sons inaugurate a Fiftieth Anniversary Sale as the oldest Moulton mercantile firm, run by Vladik and Ed Boehm, with extra staff aiding customers amid broad bargains and community contributions. The Eagle carries the sale announcement on its last page.
The Kopecky Drug Company of Moulton announces a commemorative sale for the 104th McKesson anniversary. A large display ad on page 5 highlights the bargains offered during this sale.
The Department of Agriculture estimates this year's cotton production at 17,573,000 bales, the second largest in U S history. The 1926 crop was nearly 18,000,000 bales. Texas production is about 5,025,000 bales with an average lint yield of 249.3 pounds per acre.
Senator L J Culak reports that Governor James V Allred has signed the measure opening dove season in the area. The season is now open and hunters in the region welcome the news.
Boening opens a used car lot on Highway No. 95 beside the Super Service Station. Boening has several years in the automobile business.
Frank Mikes sold the American Cafe to W. Petrash after three months of operation. Petrash assumed control of the business Monday.
The Parent Teacher Association of Moulton sponsors a Halloween dance at Herman Park Hall on Sunday October 31. Havlik's orchestra will provide music with proceeds aiding the association. Attend for an enjoyable evening and support a worthy cause.
The Home Demonstration Club held an ice cream sale in the directors' room of the bank last Saturday afternoon. Cream of various flavors was offered and the club enjoyed a good patronage. The club members are doing splendid work in the community and are justly entitled to the support from the public.
Anton Freytag wed Miss Martha Pilsner at St Josephs Catholic Church Tuesday morning with Rev Joseph Kopp officiating. The couple are children of Mrs Wenzel Freytag and Mrs John Pilsner of near Moulton. The Eagle extends best wishes for their future.
The Lavaca County Farm Debt Committee will hold its regular monthly meeting in the court house in Hallettsville on Friday October 15 at 9 A M. Those with trouble with notes may meet the committee for assistance. The committee members are John M Cannon Shiner M A Hobbs Hallettsville and W H Porter Yoakum.
The Moulton Volunteer Fire Dept thanks all who donated articles cats and cash and those who contributed to the bazaar. Special thanks to the ladies for their faithful work and to the Boy Scouts for efficient traffic control.
F T Fehrenkamp new mayor of Moulton was sworn in Monday evening by County Judge Paul H Fertsch. He administered the oath to city marshal William D Wachtendorf and ward aldermen Edwin A Jaeggli Vla dik Boehm R B Papacek Joe Biehunke and Fred Pietsch. The Eagle salutes the new administration and urges citizen cooperation.
Earl Kaiser and Miss Elda Schroeder were married at the Lutheran Church in Shiner on Thursday October 7 with Rev Richard Schuetze officiating. Bridesmaids Irma Schroeder and Marian Fishbeck attended. attendants Bill Schroeder and Fred Kaiser. ring bearer Wil bert Kaiser. flower girl Dorothy Mae Schroeder. A wedding meal followed at the bride’s home and a dance at Bluecher Park with Kurtz orchestra. The bride is daughter of Mr and Mrs Emil Schroeder of Shiner. The Eagle joins friends in best wishes for a long married life.
The Moulton Volunteer Fire Department is among 37 South Texas towns invited to compete in the Pumper and Paris Rule races at Yorktown Firemen's Celebration and Carnival Week October 19-23. Races on October 21 feature prizes, with events including rodeo acts, dances by Rice Owls, a 25 ride Greater United Shows lineup, an educational parade, a Yorktown Wildcats vs Edna Cowboys football game, and a Governor Allred speech Friday night. Admission to the fair grounds is free.
Oak Grove P T A held an October 1 meeting with 800 attendees. County agents G C King and Miss Morgan spoke on 4 H Club work, plus Tample of Charlottensburg discussed club work. A large lunch was served and 56 new members joined, bringing total to 88. A Friday October 15 meeting invites all to help plan the November 11 picnic.
Mr and Mrs Johnnie Fishbeck become new residents of Moulton moving from Oak Grove. They occupy the Ed Batey cottage near Herman Park. Mr Fishbeck has leased the filling station from Jordan Raab.
Descendants of pioneer settlers Mr. and Mrs. Peter Etlinger gathered at Boehm's pasture near Moulton for a Sunday reunion. More than 100 people attended a barbecue dinner followed by games and conversation with attendees from Yoakum Ganado Flatonia Cuero and Cuero areas.
Frank Dierschke Jr and Miss Alice Kaiser wed at St. Joseph Church in Kopp with Hertha Schroeder Christine Kurtz as bridesmaids and Herbert Johnnie Dierschke as groomsmen. Witnesses were Mrs. Gus Kaiser of near Moulton and families. A reception followed at the bride’s mother home and a dance by Joe and His Ramblers closed the festivities. Eugene Brom, injured weeks ago, is recovering at the Weifl residence.
Miss Frankie Smith returns with Mr and Mrs LE Martin Shaw to their Columbia South Carolina home where she will stay for the winter. They intend a day at the Greater Texas and Pan American Exposition in Dallas en route. Mrs John Crouch and Mr and Mrs Ralph Brandenburg and children of San Antonio Frank Crouch and daughter Myrtle Alice Charlie Crouch and son Melvin and Miss Margarite Weber of Alvin visited at the W J Spear home Sunday.
Heinrich Ohlenbusch wife age 86 dies at Karnes City October 5. Funeral at Karnes City Lutheran Church with Rev. Windecker, burial at Moulton Public Cemetery. Survived by five children 25 grandchildren 21 great grandchildren and numerous relatives.
Adolph Diouhy and Miss Bessie Stary wed at St Joseph Catholic Church Tuesday morning with Rev Joseph Kopp officiating. The couple, son and daughter of local residents, were later feted at the bride’s home as friends extend congratulations.
Evergreen P T A met October 7 at the schoolhouse with strong turnout to elect officers for the year. Officers elected were Milton Riske president Frank Kocian Jr vice president Marvin Merrem secretary and treasurer Steve Michalec reporter. Fifty one members enrolled. A Halloween Armistice program and a lunch of sandwiches cakes cookies coffee and beer were enjoyed. Next meeting set for November 4.
