Sixteen carloads of eggs were shipped from Texas stations during August, down from 137 in July and 56 in August 1949, per the University of Texas Bureau of Business Research. Interstate receipts at Texas stations totaled 14 carloads in August, 16 in July, and 13 in August last year.
Texas livestock shipments increased 24 percent to 5,253 carloads in August from July, 6 percent above last year. Calves led gains at 87 percent, sheep 34 percent, hogs 10 percent, and cattle 9 percent. Calves and hogs showed notable year over year rises while sheep and cattle fell versus August 1949.
A farewell gathering was held at the home of Mr and Mrs Anton Rehak for George Rehak prior to his induction into the United States Army. The occasion also celebrated his brother Eugene's 19th birthday. Eighty five relatives and friends attended with lunch and refreshments served.
Dr. and Mrs. Clement A. Jilek of San Antonio announce the birth of their son Michael Damian on Thursday September 21 at Nix Memorial Hospital.
Louis Pavlas, who has run a candy business in Moulton, sold the business to August Welfl who assumed control on Monday. Pavlas has relocated to Schulenburg.
Geier Merrem Post 392 of Moulton hosts an annual picnic at the V F W Hall on Sunday October 8 starting 1:00 PM. Three bands broadcast from 2 to 3 PM on KCTI Gonzales. A baby show runs 3:00 to 4:00 PM with two age groups and prizes. Lunch at 3:30 and an Adolph Migl Orchestra dance to close.
Government urges timely Christmas parcel mailing for service members overseas. October 15 to November 15 designated for acceptance. Japan Korea and Pacific destinations should be mailed by November 1. Navy Marine Corps in remote areas by October 15. Use strong boxes with cushioning, rigid ties, and weight not over 70 pounds. Prohibited items include matches and lighter fluid.
Tax collector John L Smolik will be in Moulton Wednesday and Thursday October 18 and 19 to collect state and county taxes for the current year. His office will be in the Farmers and Merchants State Bank.
The Moulton Lions Club hosted its annual carnival at the city field on September 28. The event featured the Moulton Band led by Robert S. Taylor with a lively program and cake walk recordings. Proceeds support community charity, and organizers received praise for a successful night under a clear moonlit sky.
Horpeconics at Soy Tex as State Teachers San Marcos dates October 20 and 21 announced by Ronnie Lucke Ex-Students Association secretary. Planned events include Green Grow the Lilacs by the luthke Theatre group pep rally bonfire noon barbecue homecoming dances and Gallardians assembly programs and band concerts. Saturday features the football game San Marcos Bobkats vs Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks at Evans Field at 2 30 PM with over 12 000 ex-students invited.
A baby boy weighing eight pounds four ounces was born September 22 to Mr. and Mrs. Abner Locke of Seminole Texas. The mother was formerly Miss Dorothy Migl. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Willie Migl of Ydakum and great grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Chudej of Moulton.
The State Highway Department announces Lavaca County projects including SH 200 from Sublime to Colorado County line a 5.6 mile surfacing job. SH 295 from US 77 at Hallettsville to Williamsburg a 4.8 mile grading structures and surface project. SH 295 Williamsburg to SH 111 a 12.1 mile surfacing project.
The Anderle family held a reunion at the V F W Hall in Moulton on Sunday with eighty seven guests sharing a bounteous dinner and lunch. Attendees listed include families from Moulton Houston Victoria Elcampo Norton and San Angelo plus many nephews and nieces. The Henkhaus Playboys supplied the music.
The Lavaca County Soil Conservation District has been organized about a year with twenty six committees reporting on district issues. Five reports remain. once completed, the program plan will be edited and sent to the agricultural department for approval. If approved, technicians will be assigned to implement the plan.
The Future Farmers and Future Homemakers of America will install officers and initiate new members on Friday night October 6 at 7:30 in the local gym. Parents and friends are invited to attend the ceremony.
Mr and Mrs Frank Charles Gibson have returned to Tempe after visiting the home of his parents Mr and Mrs W L Gibson.
Oscar Brunkenhoefer 47 commercial manager of KBWD radio Brownwood Texas died at his home Wednesday night September 27 of a heart attack. Born in Moulton he was a 1920 Moulton High School graduate. Funeral services were held Friday in Temple with burial there survivors include his wife mother and extended relatives from Moulton Cisco Austin and San Antonio.
The Moulton P.T.A. will hold its regular meeting in the local gym on Wednesday, October 11, at 8:00 P.M. The program features a vocal duet by James Freytag and Superintendent J. W. Pyland will discuss the topic What Is More Often Followed Than the Models of Parents? Everyone is welcome to attend.
The Catholic School Club will hold its regular meeting Friday October 6 at 8 00 PM. An entrance award will be given. All members are urged to attend.
Sacred Heart School PTA held an open house at the parish hall with Mrs Allan Shivers wife of the Texas Governor as honor guest. The social honored the confirmation class and sponsors at Sacred Heart Church and Mrs Shivers sponsored Mary Rose Strauss daughter of Senator Gus J Strauss.
The Lavaca County Unit of the Texas State Teachers Association will meet Monday October 9 at 7 30 P M in the Hallettsville High School Gym. All teachers are urged to attend this meeting. Refreshments will be served.
The Knights of the Altar at St. Joseph's School elected officers after their first meeting on September 28. President Allen Butschek, secretary Marvin Lehnert, entertainers George Svoboda and Elliott Knesek will lead regular meetings on the first Friday of each month.
A one day Youth Safety Conference on Saturday October 7 will stage a giant downtown safety parade at 10:00 AM followed by a 1:15 PM meeting at San Jacinto High School Auditorium. Speakers include Colonel Homer Garrison Jr and Governor W P Hobby. Sponsored by the Houston Chamber of Commerce and multiple state and local agencies, the event is open to the public with no charge. Over a thousand teachers, school executives, and civic leaders will attend.
The Oak Grove Girls' 4H Club elected officers with Betty Jane Raab as president and JoAnn Kubicek as reporter. The group will study dairying and clothing under Home Demonstration Agent Miss Werth.
