Will Fall Rains Benefit Soil on Your Farm
Extension chemist M K Thor ton says unprotected soil needs weatherproofing to absorb rain or reduce runoff. A green blanket of cover crops such as oats, winter peas, or rye protects against erosion. Records show higher yields following fertilized legumes, with corn up 36 bushels and cotton up 71 percent versus non legume follow.
