Auditorium Gym Dedicated in Moulton Wednesday Opening

The Moulton Independent School District opened a new auditorium gym on April 26 with a formal dedication. The building seats 700, includes stage dressing rooms and showers, and will serve the high school and community. Speakers included Superintendent Porter S. Garner and J. B. Wilson, with addresses stressing quality educational facilities for future citizens.

New Trustees Assume Duties at Moulton School Board Meeting

Louis Pietsch and Charles Bevan were sworn in as new trustees at the Moulton school board regular meeting held last week. Officers for the year elected: J. B Wilson president, Albert Puste jovsky vice president, F. C. Smith secretary treasurer.

Mrs Emilie Pelucha Pioneer Resident Buried Saturday

Mrs Emilie Pelucha long time resident died at her home on Thursday April 27 after a long illness. Funeral services were held Saturday at St Josephs Church with burial in Moulton Catholic Cemetery. Survived by six children, 28 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. one sister and one brother.

District Convention American Legion Held At Wallis

The Ninth District American Legion spring convention met in Wallis with State Commander Vincent Chi do of Houston addressing attendees. New officers include district commander Fred Renfro of Yoakum and E.H. Rackley of Alvin as assistant district commander. L. L. Hofer of Victoria was named national convention delegate. Carey Leggett of Port Lavaca as sergeant-at-arms. H. W. Mayer of LaGrange endorsed for state commander 1940-41. The convention adopted God Bless America as official song.

The Herman Sons of Texas held their twenty sixth triennial convention in San Antonio. The next convention will be held in Galveston.

Gonzales County twister Bloods the western Gonzales area

A small tornado struck western Gonzales County Texas on Wednesday night wrecking a seven room farm house demolishing barns and small buildings uprooting trees and ripping roofs from structures. Farmer Frank Harborth boarded his home beforehand and survived with his family. The storm damaged P E Smiths seven room house A J Finks smokehouse and turkey coop along an eight mile path. Wind hail and rain caused livestock losses and crop damage with no total estimate available though several thousand dollars is suspected.

Fire Department Holds Meeting And Obituary Notes

The Moulton Volunteer Fire Department held its regular meeting with Vice President Vladik Boehm presiding and Edwad Darilek at the desk. Memorial plans were noted for Sunday May 21 while the department decided to enter the state convention rac ing team at Harlingen and appoints fund raising and delegate committees. Mrs Ida Gummelt Fritsch of Roscoe died Friday April 28 at 48 years. Burial followed in Roscoe Cemetery with Rev Gralmann officiating. She was born in Hallettsville and survived by husband William Fritsch, four children, four stepchildren, parents Gottlieb and Ida Gummelt, three brothers and four sisters.

Seguin Music Festival Draws 4500 Contestants

The sixth annual Seguin music festival was held last week under Texas Lutheran College sponsorship. About 4,500 contestants entered divisions including the Moulton High School Choral Club and the High School Band with several soloists. The Moulton group did not win awards but gained valuable experience.

City Soft Ball League Organized

Five teams entered the league including K and R Drug store Jaeggli's Firemen High School and Boy Scouts. In the opening game the High School defeated K and R Drug store 28 to 4. The Boy Scouts beat the Firemen 14 to 0 in midweek action. Games are set for Tuesday and Wednesday evenings with public attendance invited.

Shiner Girl Receives Diploma at St Marys Nursing School

Miss Margaret Sofka of Shiner earned her diploma at St Marys Cathedral in Galveston during the nursing school commencement. Rev Daniel P McConnell delivered the address and Most Rev C E Byrne bishop of Galveston presented the diplomas.

Dickson School Forms 4-H Club With G C King

On Thursday morning April 27 Dickson School organized a 4-H club with leader G C King present. Seven members joined including Eu gene Krejci as president Elo Schafer as vice president Emil Kolar as secretary treasurer and Dan Koranek Raymond Krejel Sadik Mikes Jr Robert Kokas and Manuel Ramos. E B Darilek leads the group. Sweet Home defeated Moulton 8 to 7 in a lively game with 11 hits for Sweet Home and 9 hits for Moulton. Battery for Sweet Home were T Schneider A Schneider and Dullye. for Moulton B Darilek A Pohler. Hallettsville will play Moulton at Sulphur Park Sunday.
