The Vegetarian Society of New York arranged a banquet in honor of Mme Lilli Lehmann this month. The famed singer, a vegetarian for seven years for health, was surprising many admirers who learned of her diet. Non vegetarians are invited to subscribe but will receive a strictly vegetable menu.
A small location named New York lies near Glasgow on the west shore of Loch Awe opposite Portinakerrig Hotel on the loch’s east side. The Caledonian and London and North Western Railway guide marks it for this year.

Chicago March 22 report in railway circles says Harriman interests gained control of the Rock Island via Moore Leeds and Reid holdings. Sources claim the Moores sold Rock Island shares for a profit and are buying Northwestern stock to gain control for future profit within ninety days.
General T. Estrada Palma, Cuba's president-elect, conferred with President Roosevelt at the White House at an informal dinner. An anti saloon league has been organized at Floresville, forming a local group to advocate temperance and curb alcohol trade in the area.
In Manila on March 25 General Maximo and his brother were arrested on Cebu for carrying rifles and ammunition. They tried to escape a launch bound for Cebu port but were overpowered after stabbing the launch master. The brother was killed, the general bound and handed to American authorities on Cebu's coast.

A northbound Southern Railway passenger train No 38 was wrecked by a landslide near Covesville Virginia. The engine ditched and six coaches burned. Nicholas Town a Pullman porter and an unknown tramp were killed. fireman John Turner fatally burned and nine others injured. The wreck caused unprecedented mail loss for the railroad.
Captain Johnson of the Navahoe, arriving from Boston, said on March 22 between Hatteras and Bodoin Island the Major Barrett on fire was passed by the Navahoe. El Paso Texas March 24 Late yesterday afternoon two boys were run over and killed by a Galveston Harrisburg and San Antonio freight train one mile below Ysleta. They had slept between the rails while waiting for a train to board. One victim was J. J. Johnston 15 from Abilene Texas.
