In 1936 close to 35 million more property was destroyed by fire than 1935. The loss exceeds 298 million dollars vs 259 million the year before, due largely to higher property values and preventable fires caused by ignorance and carelessness. The message urges citizens to practice fire prevention to save lives and property.
Judge Joseph Ryan aged 70 who died in San Antonio Sunday of a heart attack was an uncle to Mrs. J. B. Wilson of Moulton. He served as judge of Section B, Commission of Appeals, Texas Supreme Court. Burial held in San Antonio Tuesday afternoon with sympathy to the bereaved survivors.
A farm program will be given at the Moulton school auditorium Monday night March 8 at 7 30 P M under the auspices of the Moulton Business Men's League County Agent G C King of Hallettsville and officers of the CCC of Schulenburg will discuss terracing strip cropping and other farm problems Farmers and business men are invited to attend.
Decoration services will be held Sunday morning May 30 at the Moulton Public Cemetery under the sponsorship of Geier Merrem Post No 392 American Legion. Fred F Fehrenkamp named to arrange the speaker. full program to be announced in a future Eagle edition.
Josie Lee Petrek a Moulton High School student fractured her left arm Thursday afternoon after a fall during a ball game. She is a basketball team member and daughter of Mr and Mrs Androw Petrek.
Meetings to explain the 1987 farm program and elect community committeemen will be held in several districts. A Moulton session Monday night March 8 at 7 30 p.m. covers Gwlak Moulton Baursville Novohrad Greive areas with one committeeman elected from each territory. Other locations include Hope Shiner Sweet Home Hallettaville Velehrad Mount Olive Witting Vienna and Boethel School on March 5 through March 9 with start times as listed.
Seven of twenty American Legion Auxiliaries in District 9 have met their 1937 membership quotas. Named groups include Moulton Alvin Bellville LaGrange Round Top Schulenburg and Texas City. Moulton reports 80 member quota with 31 enrolled.

Hallettsville Texas February 28 Frank Tomek 87 a Lavaca County farm resident died Saturday morning He is survived by 11 children.
A welcome rain fell in Lavaca County last Friday with about a half inch of precipitation. A lighter drizzling rain occurred on Wednesday, aiding local fields and gardens.
The estimated population of Texas on July 1 1985 was 6 077 000 according to Census Bureau statistics. This marks an increase of 8 000 over the same date in 1984.
Mrs John Wagner died at Shiner Sunday night from pneumonia aged 75 26. Burial was in the Catholic Cemetery at Shiner Tuesday morning. Surviving are her husband and 12 children including Dr Frank Wagner of Shiner and others in Moulton Cistern Floresville Houston Weimar Schulenburg and Shiner. The Eagle extends sympathy to the bereaved.

The Moulton Volunteer Fire Department held its regular meeting Monday evening with Vladik Boehm as chair. A music committee for the annual dance on April 21 was appointed: Ero C. Fehrenkamp, Donald Bunting and William Mieulka. Malvin Merrem is a new member on the active list.

Survived by widow 78 two sons George Appelts Hill Ernest Hallettsville three daughters Mrs Fred Schaefer Mrs Oscar Sicke Sublime Mrs Ed Lucke Mont 23 grandchildren 8 great grandchildren one half brother Otto Schultz Goliad. The Eagle Tendered its sympathy.
The 11th District Texas Agricultural Association met at Wharton and, by unanimous vote, adopted a resolution endorsing President Roosevelt's Supreme Court program. Copies were sent to Senators Morris Sheppard, Tom Connally, and Representative J. J. Mansfield.
Mrs Hugo Fisbeck hosted the Tuesday Afternoon Bridge Club on February 14 with three tables. Seven games were played. Mrs John Cinadr won high among members and Mrs Lee Jarosek among guests, while Mrs Otto Fisbeck cut consolation. A lunch of toasted open face cheese sandwiches potato salad pickles individual cherry pie divinity candy and coffee was served.
Shiner taxpayers approved issuing 30,000 in warrants for light and water improvements by a 89 to 1 vote. The action authorizes municipal financing to upgrade utility services.

Frank Stainacher, nightwatchman of Moulton for two years, was released by the Business Men's League directors on Friday February 26. Louis Niebuhr was named watchman and Ed Meyer as substitute. Meyer began duty February 26 and Niebuhr began March 1.

Marie Denton née Martinka died in San Antonio February 27 after months of illness. Funeral services were held at Hillie Catholic Church with Rev. Jansky presiding, burial at Triska Funeral Home in El Campo. She was born January 11, 1911 in Hillie Wharton County and died at 26 years, 1 month and 16 days. She leaves three brothers and three sisters.
Governor James V. Allred signed Senate Bill 81 exempting fraternal benefit societies including Sons of Herman and Woodmen of the World from state taxes. Senator L. J. Sulak of LaGrange submitted the bill to the Senate.
Congressman James J Buchanan of the Tenth District died in Washington on February 22 and was buried in Brenham. National officials state and local leaders joined hometown friends to pay final tribute to the late congressman.
Waelder Texas February 28 An elderly resident Miga Bertha Flowers died in a fire that destroyed an old building late Saturday night. Her body was found near the back of the structure where she apparently tried to escape. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Governor Alfred called on Texas Christians to observe Good Friday March 26 with prayers and ceremonies. He proposed state departments close from 12 to 8 p.m. on that day.
Walter Stulken a 46 year old man killed in a three way automobile collision in Houston Saturday was buried in Hallettsville. He is survived by his widow and two children Maxie and Eugene Stulken. Funeral services were held here Monday.
