State Auditor Tom King reported a rise in net debt for Texas political subdivisions by about 5 million to 74.37 million, with gross debt at 486.03 million and sinking funds 39.65 million. Local collections rose 6.72 million while ad valorem taxes fell 1.97 million, and delinquent taxes total 127.95 million.
Mrs. Richard Boehm hosted a June 22 tea and shower for Miss Emilie Jarosek, bride elect. The venue featured pink floral arrangements and lace table settings with Miss Hmma Jarosek and Mrs. Lea Jarosek serving. Miss Adele Knesek and Miss Nola Mae Knesek attended the marriage of Harvey James Buchek and Effie Louise Wallace at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in San Antonio on Saturday June 17. Rev. Everett Jones officiated. A string orchestra provided music and a garden reception followed. The bride is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Wallace. groom is son of Mr. and Mrs. John Buchek, with relations and friends present.

Will H. Mays former lieutenant governor aged 78 died at his Austin home from a heart attack. Burial was in Brownwood. Surviving are his wife, six children, a sister and a brother. Born in Kentucky he later moved to Texas where he served as Brown county attorney and founded the Texas University School of Journalism, serving as dean for 12 years. He helped launch the Texas centennial celebration and led the centennial commission as executive vice president.
