In the regular Lions Club meeting on Thursday June 16 Henry Kocian was elected president to fill one of two vacancies created after the recent election. John Janacek was chosen to fill the first vice president position.
The St John parish feast is announced for this Sunday June 26 at St John church. Masses at 6 and 7 30 am start an all day event with family style meals at noon and 5 pm Walter Schoenvogel Orchestra provides music throughout the day and night everyone is invited.

A U S Agriculture sub committee was received in Hallettsville with the cotton sub committee expected to arrive Saturday. The group will meet informally with local residents interested in farm problems and agricultural issues.
The Lavaca County Farm Bureau announces its Third annual Queen's Contest on Saturday July 23 at Wit ting Pavilion at 8:00 p m. The queen will be judged on appearance poise and personality by three judges from outside the county. Eligible entrants are daughters or sisters of Farm Bureau members aged 16 to 22 by Sept 1 1955 single and not a previous state winner. Entries available at the Farm Bureau Office.
An University of Texas study shows Texas cotton faces stronger foreign competition as foreign growers produced more American-type cottons. The study notes world production rose from 4.49 million bales in 1934 38 to 7.76 million bales in 1953 54, shrinking U S dominance.
Miss Anita Windecker will give an Organ Recital on June 29 at 8:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Moulton. The Texas Lutheran College faculty member has appeared at Carnegie Hall and in Texas. A collection will help defray expenses.
Texas farmers face falling farm prices and rising production costs as city wage gains push up equipment and building costs. The piece urges planning ahead for purchases like plows and fencing and warns of higher steel prices by fall. It notes a possible wage boost could raise demand for farm products but lift farm costs, stressing parity prices to cover costs.
Research scientist Joel H. Hembree notes U S growers supply large amounts of American type cotton with uniform fiber, aiding mass textile production. Mrs Mary Brom nee Mary Svee died at her daughter’s Houston home Friday June 17 at 10 40 am aged 89 10 10 She was born in Czechoslovakia on August 7 1865 and came to America at 22 She married John Brom in Praha in 1887 and lived in Moulton most of her life Funeral services were held June 19 at Smith Funeral Home and St Joseph Church with burial in Catholic Cemetery Moulton Survived by four daughters and four sons and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren
Post Office box rents rise again starting July 1 1955 as posted by local Postmaster J M Meiners. 65 cent boxes go to 90 cents and 91 cent boxes to 1 10 with larger drawers climbing from 1 10 to 1 50.
A University of Texas survey shows U S cotton, especially Texas fiber, losing ground to foreign producers on the world market. Foreign mills seek cheaper quality fiber as American varieties are adopted abroad, pressuring domestic cotton growers and merchants toward policy change or scrapping existing support programs.
Moulton welcomed a new Western Auto Store in the J. T. Jaeggli building with a grand opening last Saturday. Mrs. Jodie Gold won a radio, Daniel Kresta a hand saw, and Julius Kubicek a baseball glove. 704 people registered. Jimmie Luksovsky owner. D. J. Russell, president of Southern Pacific, reports in the Southern Pacific Bulletin that 1954 taxes totaled more than $52 million, equal to 8.2 cents of every dollar in revenue. Federal taxes included over $9 million in income taxes, more than $17 million for Railroad Retirement, and over $1.4 million for unemployment taxes. State and local taxes totaled about $24.43 million.
The Regular Farm Bureau plans a meeting at V Hall on Thursday June 22 at 3 00 percent. Members to discuss upcoming agricultural programs and community outreach.
A large Moulton Chamber of Commerce meeting heard Joe Johnson, the new associate county agent, discuss the agriculture program aimed at boosting farmer income. The group explored pilot tours for farmers and the need for tourist courts in the city. New committees were named by President Wm. Novosad, including Road, Agriculture, Civic Affairs, Publicity, Finance, Special Events, and Membership panels.
A narrow strip of thundershowers dropped about 2 inches of rain across Moulton Shiner Yoakum and Cuero with farmers reporting up to 2.5 inches in isolated areas. Most rain fell in a brief period leaving little rainfall elsewhere in the region.
Moulton's Pony Leaguers were defeated in both games since the last report. On Thursday, June 16 at Yoakum they lost by one point, with scores of 5 to 4 in a morning game and 6 to 2 in the other contest.
The Gonzales County Savings and Loan Association board declares its 11th semi annual dividend at 3 percent per year, payable June 30 to all account holders. The payout totals over 31000 with about 1000 people sharing. The institution reports assets around 2450000, loans 2100000, capital and reserves 145000, and more than 1700 customers.

Joe Hart of the Old Cotton Belt Assn of Texas told a Senate agriculture subcommittee that about 7500 farmers across 41 Central and East Texas counties are not getting a fair share of cotton acreage allotments. Hart said he would meet Secretary Benson to discuss changes in the law.
Austin Lt. Gov. Ben Ramsey lost a bid for rehearing as the Supreme Court overruled a motion to halt testimony in an anticipated election spending suit. The high court reaffirmed that testimony should proceed, with the case linked to RAMSEY p. 2.
Friday Likeg Eaguers defeated Flatonia 3 to 1 on the local diamond as Dietschke pitched well allowing five hits while Novak allowed six for Flatonia. Stalla opened Moulton’s scoring with a three base hit. Earlier Yoakum fell 3–0 as Kloesel yielded one hit and Mesa gave up three hits with Simper scoring in the first inning.
Texas farmers saw cash income rise 4 percent from January through April versus a year earlier per UT Bureau of Business Research. Wheat up 53 percent, oats 30, corn 20, fruits and vegetables 20, mohair 17, peanuts 16. hogs down 11, wool down 6, cotton down 4. Prices paid in April fell 1 percent from April 1954, while livestock and livestock product prices dropped 6 percent and food grain prices 4 percent.
Reynaldo Garza of Brownsville attacked what he called the persecution of the Catholic Church by dictator Peron of Argentina during a Knights of Columbus state council gathering. He compared it to Napoleon and Hitler for suppressing religion and depriving liberties. New officers were installed: James F. Houlihan state deputy. O. C. Martinez treasurer.
