Governor Shivers Files for Democratic Primary Bid

Lions Club Installs OfficersJune 15

The Moulton Lions Club held its first meeting of the month on June 1 at noon with twenty members present. New officers will be installed and Ladies Night occurs June 15 at the VFW Hall with barbecued chicken served. An arrangement committee was named and softball league games begin June 8. Julius Krejci reported on the Bretham district convention and the club received a letter from Albert Walker of San Marcos praising the club’s support for his candidacy for district governor.

Vacation Bible School Opens at Moulton Lutheran Church

Vacation Bible School will be held at Moulton Lutheran Church starting Monday June 12 from 8 15 A M to 11 15 A M each weekday for two weeks, excluding Saturdays and Sundays. Classes serve children ages 4 to 14 and all qualify for a profitable two week program.

Heavy Rains In Texas Break Week Records

Heavy rainfalls drenched many Texas sections with Galveston reporting 14 inches on Saturday the heaviest in fifty years Brownsville measured seven inches and other towns saw three to five inches Moulton logged 3.01 inches last Friday with a weekly total of 7.35 inches after a 4.34 inch week earlier.

Kocian Stationed At Fort Hood

Private First Class David A. Kocian arrived at Fort Hood Texas assigned to the 6th Medium Tank Battalion of the 2nd Armored Division. He previously served in Japan and has over 14 months overseas service in the Far East Command. Kocian is from Moulton Texas where he was a farmer before enlisting.

Emil F. Tousek Buried Here Wednesday

Emil Frank Tousek died at his parents home near Moulton Sunday evening at 7. The funeral was held at Smith Funeral Chapel Wednesday morning with services at St. Josephs Church and interment in Moulton Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers included Johnnie Munch and others from the Henkhaus Playboys Orchestra. He was 18 and8 days, educated at Evergreen and Dickson, survived by parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Lavaca County Soil Group Receives State Check

Lavaca Soil Conservation district chairman Jerome Harbich announced a $17,003 state check from state soil conservation headquarters. The funds will be deposited in Lavaca banks and used for conservation work including earth moving and brush clearing machinery. Additional state funds totaling the 1951 appropriation are due in August and September.

Wm. Peterson Dies at Dallas Hospital at 90

William Petterson, father of Mrs. J. T. Jaeggli of Moulton, died in a Dallas hospital Tuesday night at age 90. Funeral arrangements were not yet set Wednesday morning.

Mrs Charles Koester Dies After Prolonged Illness

The obituary notes Mrs. Charles Koester born Papacek June 29 1876 died June 6 in Moulton after a long illness. Funeral at Smith Funeral Chapel with interment in Moulton City Cemetery. Josef Rybak Buried At Moravia

Funeral services for Josef Rybak Sr. 92 were held at the Moravia Catholic Church on Thursday June 8 at 9 00 AM with interment in Moravia Catholic Cemetery. He was grandfather of Mrs Albert Pavlicek of Moulton. Mr and Mrs Paul Gips of Victoria are vacationing in California before attending college in Boulder Colorado during the summer.

Pavlas Pospisil Wedding Held Monday Morning

A wedding took place Monday morning at St. Josephs Church when Joyce Pavlas became the bride of George Pospisil. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Joan Pavlas. A reception followed at the bride’s parents home with a large family gathering and a late evening dance at the VFW Hall.
