The Railroad Commission denied the railroad company’s request to discontinue service on trains 51 and 52 between Moulton Yoakum and Waco. The decision ensures continued passenger train operation across the route.
Services for Pfc. Thomas James Hull killed in action at Salerno Italy on September 9 1944 were held at Smith Funeral Home in Moulton with burial at Moulton City Cemetery. A complete obituary will be published in The Eagle next week.
The Moulton Chamber of Commerce met at the high school gym with about twenty members. They voted to select a duchess to represent Moulton at the LaVaca Fiesta in Hallettsville in September.
Residents of Dickson Culak and Cedar Springs districts need not transfer children to Moulton School district as arrangements have been made under the State Contract. Children from all other districts must be transferred this month to attend Moulton Public School for the new scholastic term. Transfers may be made in the office of the Co Superintendent or with Supt J W Pyland of the local schools.
The veteran's county service office will be closed and no trips to Moulton Shiner and Yoakum will be made from July 26 to August 9. Regular schedule resumes the week of August 9. Czech Dramatic Club of Moulton staged a Sunday night play at Moulton Public School Gym to a large audience. Pfc. Rudolf L. Barta, killed in France in 1944, was honored as his funeral arrangements proceeded in Praha with military rites by local posts.
The Lavaca County Centennial Board traced Basil B. Bell’s ancestry to James Allison York who settled in Texas by 1821. York’s markers note his roles in the storming of Bexar and San Jacinto, with land grants for Army Service and Donation Certificate No. 315. The grave was found between Shiner and Sweet Home and moved to the State Cemetery in Austin.
Moulton received its first bale of the 1948 cotton crop Tuesday afternoon. The bale was grown by Victor Barborak of Komensky, ginned by Kubenka Gin of Komensky, and weighed 626 pounds. Ed Kolar of Moulton bought the bale for 35 cents per pound.
Theo Wenske Reinhold Hoe pfl and Bill Klosel attended the annual Catholic State League convention in Weimar last week. They report a large turnout and a fine gathering across Monday to Thursday.

The Democratic primary will be held Saturday July 24 affecting state district county and local offices. In Texas nomination in the primary is often equivalent to election and the public is urged to register this choice.
The Moulton Chapter of the Future Farmers of America met at the Ag building on Friday night July 16 with Francis Fisbeck presiding. Officers elected include Manuel Ermis first VP Willie Maresh second VP Lester Zimmermann third VP Joe Dean Fehrenkamp secretary Kirby Wagner treasurer Billie Meyer reporter Oscar Darilek sentinel Oscar Kuntschik parliamentarian Steve Fisbeck historian and Frank Bohuslav song leader. District training camp dates July 22 23 24 at New Braunfels were announced by advisor William Lee Young. Three honorary members August Etlinger Elo C Fehrenkamp and O F Knape spoke briefly. Meeting adjourned 9 30 P M.
Kenneth R. Freytag 18 joins the U S Air Force at San Antonio for a three year enlistment to learn the mechanical trade. He is a Moulton High School graduate who lettered in basketball for three years and plans to further his education during service.
The Hallettsville Deanery hosts a two day Scout Outing at Camp Martin Wagner east of Shiner on July 24 and 25 with a $1 registration. Protestant and Catholic services scheduled. items to bring include swimming gear and camping supplies. Remains of Staff Sgt. Johnnie J. Culak arrived in Moulton after dying in France on June 12, 1944, with his funeral held at St. Joseph Church and burial in Moulton Catholic Cemetery.
Pfc. Willie Charba 22 killed on Normandy Beach June 21 1944 is buried with military honors at Cistern Catholic Cemetery Smithville. Services were led by Rev Theo Janecek and Rev Dragon with VFW and American Legion posts participating. Captain Taylor spoke at the grave. pallbearers named. Surviving parents two sisters and one brother live in Rosanky Moulton.
President Harry S. Truman and Senator Alban Barkley of Kentucky were nominated for president and vice president at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. Truman won on the first ballot, and the vice presidency remains vacant since Truman ascended to the presidency.
Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Dibble traveled to Houston to visit relatives and returned to Houlton last Monday completing a week long trip.
Col R. E. Fort USMC and Fred Nieman of Yoakum were guests at the Lions Club luncheon. The softball committee is authorized to buy a trophy for the Moulton league winner. Members and families are invited to the San Marcos rodeo August 6-7 to benefit the Lions Club Field. Ed. E. Kolar won the attendance prize.
Postmaster and Mrs J M Meiners and Mr and Mrs William Wachtendorf fished Sunday at Austwell. Mr and Mrs Erwin Pietsch of Galveston visited the Fred Pietsch home Sunday and Monday.
