Leon Jahn of Yoakum died after his truck collided with a freight train at a crossing near Midway on Monday morning. He worked for Guadalupe Valley Creamery of Yoakum. The engineer and crew aided him, ambulance called. funeral held January 7 at 2 PM with burial in Shiner Cemetery. He was 52. Survived by wife Emma Jahn. two sons Leo Jr Cuero and Elo Yoakum. one grandson. mother Mrs. Theodore Jahn Cuero. brother Otto Cuero. five sisters including Mrs. Ed Berckenhoff Floresville and Mrs. Harry Wagner Moulton. Mrs. Willie Aschenbeck Cuero. Mrs. Ella Laake Cuero. Mrs. Gus Flessner Yoakum. brother-in-law to Mr. and Mrs. Emil Aschenbeck Moulton.
The Moulton P T A will hold a regular meeting in the High School Gym on Wednesday January 14 at 7 15 p m. The agenda includes a budgeting program presented by Marvin Merrem and a junior and senior class program. A large turnout is encouraged.
The Sam and Will Moore High School and St. Josephs School resumed classes Monday morning after a holiday recess. Teachers and students returned eager to resume their work following a pleasant holiday period.
Alvin H. Moeller formerly of Moulton and now at Texas A and I College Kingsville joined Alpha Chi Fraternity a national honorary group. He was among 52 students admitted with a scholastic average of 88 or better.
Clarence Heinrichs and family celebrate the birth of a six pound seven ounce girl at Dr H J Strieder Hospital on Thursday December 30 at 7 30 AM The couple now has two daughters Mrs Guy Birdwell of Houston visits her mother Mrs Martha Biehunke Mr Edwin Handsur and family from San Antonio spent Christmas with his parents Mr and Mrs Tom Handsur
Dr Raab who has resided in Chicago recently visited his parents Mr and Mrs John Raab at their home. He plans to relocate to Galveston. Holiday visitors at the F P Raab home included Mr and Mrs Frank Fishbeck and sons August and Charlie and Mr A H Gibson and family from Damon.
Mrs Selma Winkler of Corpus Christi visited Mrs Ben Schneider. Winkler recently suffered a fracture of her left arm, but the injured member is mending nicely.
G. J. Bohnenkamp long served as secretary of the Moulton Herman Park Verein since 1898 and Mozart Lodge No. 59 since 1900 plus Ideal camp Woodmen of the World since 1920. He was treasurer of the Moulton Lutheran Church for years. The late Mrs Bohnenkamp had been secretary of Lorbeeren Lodge No. 63 auxiliary of the Sons of Herman since 1908.
Mr and Mrs Robert Lukas of Galveston announce the birth of a daughter, Kathryn Elizabeth, on December 17. The mother is Emma Schoenfeld of Moulton former Miss, now Mrs Lukas.
Tax Assessor-Collector John L. Smolik will visit Moulton on January 9 and 10 to collect state and county taxes for the current year.
The Moulton Bobkatz defeated Schulenburg 52 to 14 Tuesday night with Holub leading the Bobkatz with 14 points. M Kubenka 10 F Kubenka 8 Kolar 7 Fehrenkamp 3 F Fisbeck 8 and Beran 2 also factored. Schulenburg Shimek led their scoring. The B teams also played with Moulton B defeating Schulenburg B 60 to 32 and F Fisbeck scoring 14 for Moulton B while Lans led Schulenburg with 24.
Dr Hugo J Strieder administered diphtheria and whooping cough shots to 370 students at Moulton High School St Josephs School Oak Grove Evergreen Boursville Kamens ky Novohrad and the Moulton colored school during Wednesday morning immunization work.
Mr and Mrs F P Raab and son Oscar spent part of the Christmas holidays visiting in the home of Er wart Raab in Houston.
Mr and Mrs Robert Harris of LaGrange and Mr and Mrs C A Williamson of Columbus joined Dr A Tasch and family of Taft Mr Gene Herzik and family of Schulenburg and Mr and Mrs Paul Newton of Stillwater Oklahoma as guests in the home of Mrs Ed Boehm Sr for the holiday dinner.
Meiserschlaeger clan gathered at the Moulton home of Mr and Mrs Frank Meiserschlaeger Sr on Christmas Day. Eleven children joined their parents for a long-awaited reunion the first in 14 years with many relatives from Edinburg Houston Moulton Alamo Breslau Hallettsville Galveston and Galveston. A group photo was taken to mark the occasion.
Mr and Mrs Mark Oliver Hanna of San Antonio welcomed a son at 2 AM on Monday January 5 The baby was named Mark Oliver The mother is Evelyn Hons of Moulton and the Hanna family business is Pressel Sash and Door Manufacturing Company in San Antonio.
E. J. Etlinger a Ganado and Moulton businessman hosted the Moulton High School Bobkatz after the game. The reception took place at a Ganado Cafe with local attendees and community members in attendance.
Mr and Mrs Albert Pavlicek of Moulton welcomed their second daughter weighing eight pounds eight ounces born at 12 50 PM Monday January 5 at Dr Hugo J Strieder Hospital The couple already have one daughter
The 4 H Club girls of St. Joseph's School held an outdoor party with a delicious lunch and Christmas gift exchange after the meal.
George Kallus of Hallettsville, head of the Lavaca County March of Dimes Campaign, visited Moulton on Monday to promote the drive. E A Oehl serves as local chairman. The campaign drive is scheduled for January 31.
Funeral services for Jesse Sidney Gibson age 66 were held at Seydler Funeral Home Gonzales on Tuesday December 30 1947. Dr J W Parker officiated with burial in IOOF Cemetery under Masonic Lodge auspices. He was born January 28 1881 in Gonzales County and survived by his wife five daughters three sons a sister two brothers two half brothers and several grandchildren.
Edwin Schacherl and Mrs D Ammermann with her daughter Mrs Edgar Henrichs collided Friday afternoon at the Highway 95 Komensky intersection. Ammermann and her daughter were treated at Dr Strieder Hospital. Schacherl sustained bruises as both cars suffered severe damage.
The painting by Anthony Miculka, winner of first prize at the Cuero Turkey Trot, is on display this week at the City Meat Market.
