Red Cross Urges Swift Rally for Spring War Aid

Red Cross chapters in the Southwest are urged by headquarters in St Louis to double their efforts for a large spring drive. As thousands more American soldiers reach France, the organization plans to supply sweaters wristlets helmets and hospital garments and expand nursing staff. The surgeon general estimates forty thousand nurses will be needed for the near future and many women will join to support democracy in Europe.

Red Cross Appropriates 4.77 Million for Italy Aid

The American Red Cross reports an appropriation of 4 771 990 dollars for Italy relief between November 1917 and May 1918. The figure was set after a survey to determine Italy's needs, with the money to be administered from St Louis headquarters.

Death of August Kuehn A Longtime Local Resident

August Kuehn died at his home south of town on Saturday morning February 16 after weeks of illness. He was 85 years 3 months and 1 day old, born November 15, 1832 in Freienstein Brandenburg Germany. He came to Texas in 1859 and married Wilhelmine Schemmer in New York July 4 1864. Surviving are four children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services were held February 17 at the Lutheran church with Rev H A Heineke. burial in Boursville Cemetery. He is survived by his sister Bertha Koch and brother William Kuehn. The Eagle extends sympathy.

Moulton Lutheran Frauen Verein Holds Monthly Meeting

The regular meeting of the Moulton Lutheran Frauen Verein was held Thursday afternoon at the new home of Mr. and Mrs. Teo Jarozewski two miles southeast of the city. The Verein voted to meet only on the first Thursday each month. The next meeting will be with Mrs. G. J. Bohnenkamp.

New Nickel High School Ready for Friday Dedication

The new high school at Nickel six miles west of here is completed and will be dedicated Friday night with a basket supper and a pupil literary program. The tile building is modern throughout and reflects the pride of its builders.

Yoakum Texas February 16 A message from Hoboken New Jersey said Corporal John Fawcett of this city who died in France had arrived there His parents wired orders to ship the body back for burial Fawcett was popular with the younger set of the city.

Lutheran drive for $750000 to aid soldiers spiritual care

In a community appeal dated February 18 to 25, Lutheran congregations in Moulton and Boufsville plan to raise at least $750000 for the first year to send pastors to training camps and France. Twelve volunteers will solicit donations from confirmed Lutherans and any Christian supporters. The effort emphasizes sustaining faith and the Gospel for soldiers in khaki and blue.
