Moulton City Council Sets 1977 Election and Water Survey

City Council met February 14 1977 with all members present. Last minutes read. Bills totaling 2013.25 approved. A survey to extend water service area authorized. Election ordered for April 2 1977 for mayor and two aldermen. Candidate filing closes March 2 absentee voting March 14 to 29. Monthly financial statements provided.

The Moulton Cub Scouts Pack No. 221 will hold an Open House on Sunday February 20 from 11 to 11 30 a m at the Catholic Gym. The public is invited to view Arts and Crafts made by the local boys.

Local 1976 Rainfall Report from Moulton Area

Herbert Pavlicek of Route 1 Moulton records 1976 rainfall at 63.20 inches with April the wettest month at 11 inches. Ten inches or more fell in April May October and December while January had the least at "% inch and December 5th brought 4.60 inches in a single day. Comparison shows 1975 total 44.10 inches and 1974 56.40 inches.

Legion Aux Meets For February Meeting

The American Legion Auxiliary held its February meeting with the colors advanced and the pre amble. The secretary and treasurer reported and were accepted. Plans for a March birthday dinner were discussed, with a flower arrangement replacing a cake to be given to a Nursing Home. A Girls State letter noted a raised fee to 90 dollars.

Moulton School Trustee Election Set For April

The Moulton School Board met February 9 and set the trustee election for April 2 at City Hall. Terms for Daniel Jasek Daniel Bohuslav and Gene Selzer expire. George Mayer was named election judge and principals contracts were extended. Cafeteria manager Mrs Valigura was rehired and plans discussed for an auto mechanics course.

VFW to Meet Wednesday February 23 at Hall

Moulton VFW Post will hold a meeting Wednesday night February 23 at 7 30 p.m. at the VFW Hall. The Ladies Auxiliary will also meet.

Gonzales Livestock Market Report

The market was active with stocker steer calves steady to higher while fat butcher calves were 50c to $1 lower. Packer cows and bulls ranged steady to strong. cow and calf pairs sold well though few good ones offered. Hogs remained active and fully steady with last week.

Anton F Palitza formerly of the Culak Dickinson School community and Moulton died Sunday February 13 at age 81. Rosary was recited Monday at Smith Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Moulton with Rev. Robert Schmidt officiating. Interment followed at Moulton Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife and by his son Victor Palitza who was killed in World War II.

Jim Kocian 80 of Moulton formerly of Shiner died Thursday February 10 1977 in San Antonio. Funeral services were held February 12 at 10 30 a m at St Josephs Catholic Church Moulton with Rev Robert E Schmidt. Smith Funeral Home directed. Rosary was recited February 11 at 8 p m. Survivors include wife Stella of San Antonio three daughters Lillie Dunn Sabinas Lake Bartos Moulton Adele Marburger Chapel Hill Texas four sons Leo Zefrin Theo David six brothers 24 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Medical Clinic Meeting Set for Feb 23 in St Joseph Hall

The Moulton Community Medical Clinic holds its annual meeting February 23 at 8 15 p m in St Joseph s Parish Hall. Board terms expiring include Edwin Darilek Francis Fisbeck Johnnie Maresh Herman Hanslik Thomas Hoyer and Father Schmidt with 1978 and 1979 term expirations. Three directors will be elected for three year terms and officers elected by the board from its members for one year. A large turnout is expected to hear progress plans and the clinic s dedication and picnic.

Kaiser Dies Following Illness at 60 in Moulton

Harry Kaiser died Sunday afternoon at Shiner Hospital at 60 years old. Born in Moulton September 28 1916 he married Allyne Hohmann July 6 1949. He worked as a mechanic at Petrek Garages and as a custodian at the Public Cemetery before passing from meningitis. Funeral services were February 15 at Smith Funeral Home with burial in Moulton City Cemetery. Surviving are his wife three sisters a brother.

Mrs Josephine Pavlicek, 82, of Flatonia died Monday February 14 1977. Rosary was recited at Smith Funeral Home Chapel and a funeral at St Joseph Catholic Church Moulton with Rev Robert Schmidt officiating followed by burial at Moulton Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include husband Louis five sons Elbert Louis Eugene and Frank of Moulton Emil of Freeport two sisters and many grandchildren.

Kittens Capture 59-B Crown in Second Straight District Title

The Moulton Kittens clinched the S9-B district title with an 49-35 win over Navarro in Geronimo. Donna Bohuslav led with 20 points while Donna Simper added 11, Liz Chaloupka 13, and Kathy Zidek 5 as the Kittens finished 8-0 in district play and 23-7 overall. Lavaca County American Cancer Society unit met January 24 1977 at Mrs. Fred Hoffer home with Dr. Fred Eidman presiding. Tom Elsner presented Michael and Me film on leukemia recovery and discussed ACS activities and district rankings. Next meeting planned for March 1977.

Sick sister of Bertha Thiede rushed to Memorial Hospital

Mrs. D. Hinrichs Sr. is seriously ill at Memorial Hospital after a heart attack at home around 10 o clock Sunday. Bertha Thiede had just returned from visiting her. Hinrichs had been recovering from a hip replacement. Josephine Schiner has improved at Shady Oak Nursing Home after Shiner Hospital stay since Feb. 3. Charles Zamykal Sr. returned home Feb. 1 after two weeks in Edgar B. Davis Hospital in Luling and is feeling better.

Geir-Merrem Post 392 met February 2 presided by Commander Willie Bartos. New members Don Wertz and Milton Kunkel joined. The post reported 227 members for 1977 and approved reports and upcoming events including a March 30 BBQ chicken plate and a March 13 birthday dinner.

Gonzales Tops Area Towns in City Sales Tax Revenue

The City of Gonzales led a 26 percent 1976 sales tax rise among 17 towns within 40 miles of Yoakum with Victoria posting the largest dollar haul at 1 606 360 75. Gonzales ranked first in percentage gain. Cuero Yoakum and Edna also posted solid increases while Nixon and Smiley showed declines.

Mr and Mrs Edd Pilsner attended Lone Star Brewing Company 1977 Annual Sales Meeting at St Anthony's Hotel San Antonio last week Tuesday On the agenda were a 10 a.m. meeting luncheon at 2 p.m. cocktail hour at 6 p.m. and a dinner The New Christy Minstrels provided entertainment at 8 30 p.m followed by dancing and tails beginning at 10 p.m The Pilsners returned home Wednesday.
