Terrific Car Crash Claims 1 Life

A fatal crash near Moulton killed James C. Meazle 32 a Rath Packing Co. salesman from Houston. His car swerved struck a parked Plymouth injuring no one and rolled over multiple times before Meazle died at Burt Clinic. His brother in law Dennis Berckenhoff 18 was treated for minor injuries.

Services Held For Auto Crash Victim Tuesday Morning

The Christmas Eve joy turned to tragedy when James C. Meazie 32 of Houston died in an auto crash here at 11 45 p m Saturday Dec 24 Funeral services were held Tuesday Dec 27 at 10 15 a m at Smith Funeral Home Chapel then at St Joseph s Catholic Church 10 30 a m Rev Bernard Goebel officiated Burial followed at the Catholic Cemetery with American Legion and VFW rites Rosary was recited at the funeral home Meazle born in Rusk Texas attended Rusk High School and served in World War II See VICTIM page 3 col 8.

March of Dimes Drive Opens in Lavaca County

Preparations for the 1956 March of Dimes in Lavaca County advance. Geo. Kallus again chairs the drive with local community chairmen named in Hallettsville Yoakum Shiner Moulton Witthing and Kamensky. Past Lavaca County drives raised $37 288 84 for 1952 1953 1954 1955 with January 1955 net of $7 429 72. The county chapter has spent $92 on patient care in four years.

Roof Fire Damages Home Near Komensky

The Moulton Fire Department rushed to the home of Mr and Mrs Herbert Pavlicek in the Komensky vicinity last Thursday as their roof caught fire. The blaze was extinguished with minor damage and the cause remains undetermined though fireworks are suspected by a family member.

Plymouth sedan crash fatally injures James Meazle

James Meazle died last Saturday in a Plymouth sedan crash. Dennis Berckenhoff, who rode with him, escaped with minor injuries. The wire fence was smashed through twice as the car rounded the corner in front of Mrs. John Zavesky’s residence on FM Road 532 south of here.

Old It on Belt Association Approves Three Point Program

The Old Iton Belt Association of Texas backs a three point legislative plan to aid Central and East Texas farmers. It seeks repeal of the 1953 cotton acreage record, revision of 1951 52 plantings, and continuation of a 1 cent reserve for small farms. The push aims to address inequities in county and farm allotments and protect growers from biased reporting and arbitrary reductions.

Appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Amarillo

The Amarillo diocese appoints an auxiliary bishop to assist Bishop L J FitzSimon who has been ill. Born in Lavaca County near Praha, he studied at American College in Rome and was ordained in 1933. He holds a doctorate from Georgetown University 1935 and has served in Weimar St Ann's San Antonio and St John's Seminary.

Newsprint Deliveries Will Be Cut

Five major newsprint makers informed newspaper clients that deliveries will be reduced from 714 to 1314 percent in 1956, according to the American Newspaper Publishers Association. The cuts are expected to shrink paper sizes for papers relying on these suppliers, a spokesman said.
