Will Erect Storage Tanks for Texas Company Lease

H. A. Menefee, local representative of the Texas Company, says the firm has leased 50 by 100 feet of ground from the railroad for a warehouse and two storage tanks of 660 gallons each. One tank will store gasoline and the other kerosene. construction will begin soon as materials arrive.

Sam and Will Moore Institute to Close for Holidays

The board of trustees of the Moulton Independent School District decided to close the Sam and Will Moore Institute on Friday December 20 for Christmas holidays. The institute will reopen on Monday December 30.

Old Resident Louisa Welder Dies in Beeville

Mrs. Louisa Welder, aged about 98, died in Beeville on Saturday December 7. Born in Germany, she came to Texas in 1833 with her parents and married Thomas Welder in 1846. he died in 1865. She is survived by a son Tom Welder and a daughter Mrs. Mary O Connor, both of Beeville.

Simcik Son Dies for Country From Moulton Area

Mr and Mrs P F Simcik near Moulton receive word from the war department that their son Frank Simcik was killed in action October 7 The loss marks the fourth Moulton boy to die in defense of liberty The Eagle extends condolences to the grieving parents.

School Club Meeting At Moulton With Planned Fundraiser

The Moulton Home and School Club gathered Friday afternoon at the Sam and Will Moore Institute. New member August W Janszeu was announced. Plans for the year included buying books for primary grades and a cake and candy sale at Kotzebue Drugstore on Monday December 23 to benefit the school. Committee members were Mrs W K Rich ter chair, Mrs John Bucek, Mrs S Valenta and Mrs F W Tucke, with Miss Adele Knesek and Miss Eisie Jaeggli soliciting candy.

Death Notice of August Naehring in Austin

August Naehring of Austin died suddenly Monday night while visiting his brother in law Gustav Krueger’s home north of town. Funeral was held at the Krueger residence, interment in the Lutheran cemetery with Rev. H. A. Heineke officiating. A German native aged 81 years and 3 days, he is survived by two daughters Mrs Joe Robinson of Giddings and Mrs Charles Kelum of Austin. The Eagle extends sympathy.

Mrs. D. Cook Dies Near Shiner After Illness

Mrs. D Cook died at her home near Shiner on Thursday December 5 after a several days illness. She was buried December 6 in Shiner City Cemetery. Aged 68 years eight months, born Frelsburg Colorado county April 5 1849. Survived by husband six children Henry John Christian Richard Cook Mesdames Herman Sauer Emma Flessner thirty four grandchildren ten great grandchildren. The Eagle extends sympathy to the sorrowing ones.

Roeder Guests Host High School Pupils At Friday Card Party

Prof and Mrs C C Roeder entertained Friday evening for High School pupils and teachers. Forty two provided amusement as eight games were played. Prize winners were Evelyn Richter Erwin Oehl Emil Papakek and Ida Kaase. Refreshments of cake sandwiches and cocoa were served.

Lavaca County Names First Woman County Treasurer

County Commissioner J. W. Nachlinger states the commissioners in special session at Hallettsville appointed Mrs. Bertha Mikulenka to the office of county treasurer to fill the unexpired term of her late husband Edward Mikulenka. She becomes Lavaca county’s first female county official.

Bazaar Draws Big Crowd at Moore Institute Sale

Sixth and seventh grade pupils of the Sam and Will Moore Institute held a bazaar in the R. A. Etlinger building on Frent Street Saturday afternoon. They sold handwork toys and Christmas cards and served refreshments as receipts totaled about $35.00.

Captain Kotzebue Flies 75 Miles with Son Pilot

Captain A. M. Kotzebue, recently mustered out at Fort Riley, Kansas, visited home folks in the city Tuesday. He had just returned from Houston where on Monday he made a seventy five mile flight in an airplane piloted by his son Lieutenant Meinhard Kotzebue of the aviation corps. He says air travel is thrilling beyond description.

Shiner Citizen Dies After Illness

August Heinsohn, a Shiner gunnner, died Monday after a brief illness of influenza pneumonia. He was 38 and born in Lavaca County near Hallettsville. Interment was in Hallettsville after services Thursday. He is survived by his wife three children his mother six sisters and two brothers.

George Littlefield Houston Dies After Illness

George Littlefield Houston a prominent stockman from Uvalde died after a brief pneumonia illness. He was 41 and married with three daughters. The Gonzales county native was laid to rest in Mission Burial Park San Antonio on Thursday following his Wednesday wedding in the city.

New County Board of Examiners Appoints Two Professors

H W Bennett aged 103 died at his home three miles south of Columbus on Thursday night. Born in 1815 three months before the battle of Waterloo, his health and mind were strong until recently.
