Negro Leader Found Burned and Beaten to Death
Herbert Johnson 60 president of Schulenburg NAACP chapter and commander of Schulenburg Negro American Legion Post was found dead on his farm ten miles west of Schulenburg. His car was burned and blood stains with a bloody stick were found near the corn crib. Investigators from Gonzales and Schulenburg Fayette counties pursued the case as no motive or racial trouble had been reported. Johnson's wife Naomi 57 found the body and two uncles helped search.
