Thanksgiving Picnic at Komensky saw large turnout and big help

Weather uncertainty did not dampen Komensky school’s annual Thanksgiving picnic. A hearty menu included turkey stew and side dishes. volleyball by Komensky girls over Witting 15 7 and 16 8. a packed dance with Migl Vogt Orchestra. Receipts totaled 650 dollars. Next P T A meeting set for Friday night December 8 at the school.

Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Fehrenkamp and Mrs. Erna Kotzebue attended the funeral of Mrs. Meta Blaugkampt in New Ulm Sunday. Mrs. Blaugkampt, a cousin of Mr. Fehrenkamp, died at age 79 years 11 months 26 days.

Aged DeWitt Citizen Celebrates 93rd Birthday

Yoakum Texas ranchman George Dickinson marked his 93rd birthday at his farm home in the County Line Community nine miles south of Yoakum on Thursday. His guest was his brother W M Dickinson 90. Relatives and friends visited to greet two pioneers of the area. They are the surviving children of Dr and Mrs S B Dickinson, longtime settlers.

New N Y A Workshop Opens in Hallettsville

Hallettsville Texas December reports the new National Youth Administration workshop opened at City Park under J D Robards supervision. Thirty workers will be employed in the shop and up to 40 more on the park project to wreck and rebuild the old hall into new structures.

Mrs Beta Leazar stars as Gretl in Haensl and Gretl presented by the Texas State Opera Association directed by Dr Otto Wick at the Municipal Auditorium San Antonio. The English language opera features a fifty piece orchestra with performances on Friday December 15 at 3 and 8 PM. Garwood Gars Hold Off Bobkatz in Low Scoring Clash

The Garwood Gars edged the Bobkatz 26 25 as Lopries led with 15 points and Boehm topped Bobkatz with 11. A 17 17 third quarter tie and late long shots gave Garwood the lead in a tense Farm League game. Approximately 75 farmers and businessmen attended a special meeting at Moulton High School to review the cotton marketing quota referendum to be voted on Saturday. The official ballot was demonstrated on a blackboard showing YES for quotas and NO for against.

Fire Department Elects Officers

The Moulton Volunteer Fire Department held its regular meeting at the Fire Station with Chief W H Pundt presiding. All officers were re-elected by acclamation: O F Knape president Vladik Boehm vice president Edward Darilek secretary William Miculka treasurer W H Pundt chief Henry E Fehrenkamp assistant chief Rev E Jacobs chaplain. An auditing committee was appointed: Judge A J Darilek Donald Bunting Weldon Knape. The next meeting was set for Monday January 8 due to New Year’s Day.

Referendum on Moulton cotton quotas set at bank building

The Moulton referendum will be held at the bank building with Albert Pustejovsky and Ad Vana in charge. All 1989 cotton producers may vote once, needing a two thirds majority to approve marketing quotas. Farmers express dissatisfaction with the acreage allotment and call for action. 1940 officers will be elected at the next meeting.

State Reports Net Balance Of 18 Million Dollars

The Texas State Treasury announced on December 1 an overall balance of about 18 million dollars despite deficits totaling over 26 million. Deficits were 22.398 million in the general fund 2.686 million in the Confederate pension fund and 1.9 million in the old age pension fund. Unpaid warrants stood at 33.6 million with cash on hand of 51.6 million.

World’s Heaviest Fireman William Kiely Dies at 42

William Kiely 42, longtime New London fire department driver known as the heaviest fireman of the world, died of a cerebral hemorrhage Thursday. He weighed 625 pounds and had served 19 years with the department.

Moulton Street Paving Project Planned For 32 Blocks

Work on the Moulton street paving project is expected to start soon. The plan covers paving of thirty two blocks and representatives of the Centre Power and Light Company were in town last week taking inventory of the company holdings.
