The Texas State Teachers Association held its annual convention in Dallas over the past weekend drawing about 10 000 teachers. Numerous prominent educators addressed the gathering.
Beauford Jester designates Thanksgiving Day to Christmas as Gonzales Warm Springs Foundation Month to aid the polio crippled children program. The Gonzales institution begun in 1941 now houses 110 youngsters and relies largely on Texas citizen contributions.
Miss Anna Jarvis 84 founder of Mother's Day died in Philadelphia on November 24. She started the observance on May 9, 1907, the second anniversary of her mother's death. President Wilson proclaimed the second Sunday in May as a national tribute. She was a native of West Virginia.
Mr and Mrs Harry Meyer of Houston spent Thanksgiving Day visiting in the home of his parents Mr and Mrs J L Meyer.
Texas Highway Commission designates four Farm to Market Roads in Lavaca County from Moulton to Gonzales County line Hallettsville to Guenzel and Shiner area routes and Ezzell to Halettsville. Plans call for construction at an estimated cost of 187700 dollars with Lavaca County to provide right of way.
Christmas Seals are urged as a Texas tradition aiding the Texas Tuberculosis Association. Since 1908 the campaign funds health education case finding and research to combat TB which kills thousands yearly. Buyers gain the satisfaction of supporting community welfare.

A plea to Moulton residents to start city beautification in spring. Civic groups may offer prizes for best kept grounds and buildings, with a beautiful yard contest as a direct step. Travel literature notes that towns with well kept appearances attract automobile tourists and leave positive memories.
An election will be held throughout Lavaca county on Wednesday December 8 for electing local committeemen to administer the 1949 loan program. Farmers eligible are those who participated in the 1948 agricultural conservation program, and wives of association members may vote for committeemen.

Miss Margie Bohuslav daughter of Mr and Mrs Bohuslav Komensky and Ernest Anders son of Mr and Mrs Emil Anders Rosenberg were married at St Josephs Church Moulton on Monday November 22 Rev Joseph Kopp officiated The couple were attended by Helen Kubenka Irving Anders maid of honor Bernice Migl led the wedding party with several Bohuslav relatives and friends guests later joined for dinner and a reception followed by a dance at Herma Park Hall
The Moulton High School Bobkatz beat Weimar 63 to 37 in a Wednesday game at Wemar. The Moulton B String defeated Weimar B String 44 to 17. Weimar meets Moulton again December 2 with girls volleyball and boys basketball on the schedule.
The Meyerhoff Dry Goods Co. of Hallettsville announces its 28th Anniversary Sale. The firm has served Hallettsville and South Texas with reasonable merchandise and built a leading mercantile presence through years of advertising and customer service.
Emilee Kalisek completes cosmetology training and is awarded a beautician license. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank J Kalisek of Richmond.
U S Navy recruiting team will be in Moulton Texas from 12 30 PM to 4 90 PM on December 7 1948 at the Post Office Building. Information offered on the regular three year enlistment and a one year option for men age 18. Also details on Navy trade schools and educational opportunities. Mrs. Mary Faltisek, 80, died at her home near Henkhaus on Tuesday November 30 at 4 45 P M Funeral services will be from Smith Funeral Home in Moulton on Friday December 3 at 9 30 A M with Mass at St Joseph Catholic Church at 10 00 Interment will be in Moulton Catholic Cemetery A more extended notice will be published in The Eagle next.
Ernest R. Meitzen a well known Texas newspaperman died at his home in Dickinson Texas at 4 30 P M Friday He had been a newspaper publisher at Hallettsville Yoakum and Dickinson He was the son of the late E R Meitzen who served as La Vaca County judge about thirty years ago
