Senator Vandenburg of Michigan appears to be a strong contender for the 1940 Republican presidential nomination as party leaders weigh his candidacy and support moves.
Elliot Roosevelt of Fort Worth will go on the air soon as a commentator. He is the Texas manager of Hearst Radio Stations.

President Roosevelt will be asked to dedicate the San Jacinto monument near Houston on April 21 1988. The monument now under construction will rise 564 feet high nine feet taller than the Washington monument.
About 35,000 teachers will participate in the state operated retirement fund. The special session of the legislature failed to provide revenue for the retirement fund, but it is believed the legislature will eventually supply revenue for the state's portion of the pension.
The American Legion Hall hosted a Tuesday night meeting by the Moulton Business Men's League with many farmers and business people in attendance. Speakers from Schulenburg Yoakum and Illinois addressed poultry, dairying, and tomato growing, noting Carnation Milk Company checks run about 30 000 dollars monthly. Out of town guests included Holt and Louis Steinmann of Schulenburg and Mrs G C King of Hallettsville.
The 1938 V-8 Ford is now on display at the show rooms of the Kolar Motor Sales. It is a beautiful car and everybody should go to see it.
Himer Carl Riske has accepted a position in Houston, joining a local company. The move marks a career transition for Riske as he begins duties in the Texas city.
Daniel Hinch has accepted employment at Kolar Motor Sales, taking a position within the dealership. The move places Hinch in the sales team as the company expands its car offerings and customer service capabilities.
Mrs J D Gray accompanied by Mrs Sam Jaeggli traveled to Brenham and Bryan on Monday. They visited local sites and met with residents during their brief outing.

Mrs. Charles Seekamp of Corpus Christi visits her parents Mr and Mrs J C Kopecky. Gordon Wells Janszen of Flatonia spent the weekend with his grandparents Mr and Mrs Emil Janszen.
Mrs Charles Seekamp with Miss Dorothy Jean Jaeggli and Miss Eunice Kopecky visited Miss Grace Frey in Cuero on Friday, sharing social greetings and fellowship.
Misses Jennie Mae and Ora Willis Janszen returned Monday from Austin where they attended the Simmons Honig wedding and visit with friends.
Out of 260 Allen Cadets Sam Jaeggli Jr ranks third in scholastic rating and is honored as the No 1 Latin student at the Academy.
Dr Sam Jaeggli and his son Sam Jr hunted in Fredericksburg during the first part of the holidays last week. The remainder of the week they stayed at the parental home in Moulton.
Mr. George F. Baur and family of Galveston along with Mr. Sam A. Wunderlich and family of Houston and Mr. Kilmer Eberhard and family of Yoakum spent Sunday in the George Baur home.
Pioneer resident B von Lienen died Wednesday at 11 10 a.m. at his son George von Lienen's home. Funeral Thursday at 3 p.m. from his home with services at Zion's Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Klages of Hallettsville. He was 91 years 11 months 19 days. Survived by son George, step-son G J Bohnenkamp, 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A longer notice will appear next week in The Eagle.
Mrs. Katrina Rothbaur, 64, of Sulphur Park, died at Shiner hospital on Monday November 29. Burial was in Moulton Catholic Cemetery Wednesday morning with Rev. Joseph Kopp officiating. pallbearers named Jim Welff John Welfs Nick Welfl Joan Welfl Frank Dusek Gus Welfl. The Eagle extends condolences to the family. Mrs. Gene Herzik of Schulenburg visited relatives in Moulton Friday.
The Moulton PTA will meet on Wednesday December 8. The program includes a piano solo by Vera Lee Meiners and a band performance by Mrs. W. E. B. Smith and Miss Mary Ruth Williams. All members are urged to attend.
Miss Tillie Franke departed Sunday for Houston to visit relatives and spend time with family members in the area.
Miss Sidonia Filip of Shiner stays with relatives in Houlton for a week. C. T. Johnson comes back to Austin after several days with family. Mr. Johnnie A. Mueller and family of Houston spent part of the week here with home folks and friends.

H. W. Hafer a piano tuner from Bay City has been in the city since last week. He is staying at a local lodging while attending to tuning jobs and meeting clients in the area.

Mayor and Mrs. F T Fehren kamp and Mrs. Erna Kotzebue visited Mrs. Julia Ziegelmann in Cuero on Sunday. Ziegelmann recently spent time in the hospital recovering from injuries from an automobile crash and is reported to be progressing well.
Mr and Mrs B F Ware Mr Carlton Johnson and daughter Jo Ann and Jack Cooper spent the Thanksgiving holidays in Walnut Grove Mississippi Charles Johnson grandson of Mrs Ware returned with them and will attend school here.
Ideal weather aided Komensky school Thanksgiving events with a turkey dinner and stew served to attendees. Entertainment included a basketball game and a volleyball match. Two hundred tickets were sold for the dance in the evening.
Will Fr. Woods 69 native of Lavaca county and long time San Antonio resident died Wednesday November 24. He was UT graduate. Funeral by Rev. W A Sloan was in San Antonio Sunday. Survives widow two sons seven daughters 19 grandchildren and one brother.
Joe Dueho of the Moulton Volunteer Fire Department was injured when a large pumper ran over his foot during a Monday night drill. No bones were broken, but he cannot work at Palace Barber Shop until he recovers. The Eagle hopes for a quick mend.
Hallettsville reports 16 year old Joe J Havel of the Burjes 4 H Club awarded the Wilson Medal by the Wilson Packing Company Chicago for champion county livestock raiser. He fed 10 pigs for 180 days and sold them for a profit of 119 dollars 24 cents.
Funeral services were held Friday morning for Otto Castell aged 34 who died suddenly in Victoria. His wife and small daughter survive.
The Baursville P.T.A. will hold its regular meeting on Friday December 8. A social will follow the business portion to provide entertainment.
Earl Spinks of Harwood and Florence Beaty of this place were married Wednesday evening in Waelder.
