Lavaca County Court Clash Over Judge Salary and Legal Adviser
The Lavaca County Commissioners Court votes to cut County Judge E. O. Meitzen’s salary from 600 to 100 per year and creates an assistant county attorney role for J. C. Lamkin. Critics say the move wastes public funds and undermines the elected judge, with Attorney General guidance cited against employing a yearly legal adviser. County Attorney W. T. Bagby is defended by supporters as fully capable of advising the court. Public opinion condemns the action as an improper attempt to replace the elected official.
