The Sam and Will Moore Institute begins the 1933 34 scholastic session on Monday morning September 11. Public opening exercises invite all children and the date for compulsory attendance will be announced later. Farley Urges Texas Voters to Back Prohibition Repeal

Postmaster General James A. Farley used a radio address to call Texas voters to form a strong majority for repealing the prohibition amendment. He said Washington cannot be blamed for the outcome and urged support for temperance and national welfare.

Farm Home Fire Near Town Saturday

A rental house on Joseph Darilek’s farm near Moulton caught fire Saturday. The blaze was extinguished with little damage. Origin unknown, but mice chewing on matches is suspected. The house is occupied by Isadore Krhoviak and family.

States Back Repeal In Three To One Vote

Missouri joined 22 states in approving a prohibition repeal amendment by a three to one margin. Texas voters decide on repeal and legalization of 8.2 beer this Saturday as the nationwide push continues.

Pioneer Resident R F Cook Dies at 85 in Lavaca County

Pioneer resident R. F. Dick Cook died at Shiner aged 85 years 1 month and 10 days. Funeral from the Sauer home with later burial in Shiner City Cemetery officiated by Rev. Schuetze Lu theran minister. Survived by three sons Henry Knippa Christian Rowena and Richard plus two daughters Mrs. Sauer and Mrs. Flessner. Attendants included Mr and Mrs Fehrenkamp Mrs Erna Kotzebue and Mr and Mrs Bohnenkamp.

Texans Will Vote On Amendments Saturday

Voters in Lava Ca county prepare for a Saturday election with two tickets. The first covers 31 delegates for repeal of national prohibition and 31 alternates, while the second lists four state constitutional amendments including home rule for large counties, a $20,000,000 relief bond issue, beer legalization up to 8.2 percent, and homestead tax exemption up to $3,000. Poll tax rules vary. most age 21 since 1942 may vote without a receipt, and 60+ since 1942 may vote as well.

Highway Gaps To be Closed on Texas 95

Texas Highway Commission said it aims to complete two gaps on Highway 95 between Temple and Yoakum. Gaps sit between Elgin and Bastrop and between Smithville and Flatonia. Elgin Bastrop section work to start soon while field notes are formed for Smithville Flatonia segment.
