Sterling vs Ferguson Vote Emphasis in Texas Governor Race

The Texas Democratic voters will choose a governor candidate next Saturday. The Eagle backs Ross Sterling, citing his business leadership and reforms in the highway department. Mrs. Otho Casey hosted the 42 Club on Thursday August 14. Three tables were set for players. Mrs. Elo Feh renkamp won a pinted cake plate and Mrs. Ed. Bie hunke received an embroidered towel. Cake and sherbert were served.

Wolf scalps price raised in Gonzales County

At the August term the Gonzales County commissioners voted to raise wolf scalp payments from 2.50 to 10 each. Sellers must deliver scalps to the county auditor and file an affidavit proving the wolf was killed within Gonzales County.

Superintendent W E Smith says the State Department of Education has granted Moulton Public Schools one and a half more units of affiliation two in arithmetic and one in English history bringing total credits to 15 percent The Eagle notes all credits were earned during his tenure and hopes full affiliation may come next year.

August Rogge Dies in Shiner After Long Illness

August Rogge prominent citizen of Shiner died at his home on Wednesday August 13 after a several year illness. Burial was at Shiner City Cemetery the next day under the Knights of Pythias Lodge. He leaves his wife and one daughter Mrs Vance Percy along with many relatives and friends.

Hawks Flyers New West East Record Set by Frank Hawks

Captain Frank Hawks established a new west to east flying record on August 13 from Glendale California to Curtis Field New York in 12 hours 25 minutes and three seconds averaging about 200 miles per hour. He beat the previous mark held by Colonel and Mrs. Lindbergh by nearly two hours.

Von Struve Named New American Consul in Caracas

Shiner Weigher's Contest Decided

Lavaca county Democratic executive committee met in Hallettsville to recount the public weigher election. Roeder gained a 12 vote majority after recanvas. Henkhaus had been defeated by 2 votes in the initial tally. William Hillmer of Moulton reported the recount result to The Eagle.

Families Move Between Cottages In Local Shifts

Moved residents include Mr F H Migl and family to Rud Brueggmann cottage in the southeast city. Mr and Mrs William Schulze occupy the cottage just vacated by Arnold Freytag and family. Arnold Freytag and family move to H W Haase cottage on Highway 109 where Freytag serves as manager of Haase's new drive in filling station.
