Oak Grove Fetes Fiftieth Anniversary Celebration
Oak Grove marked its fiftieth anniversary with a July 6 gathering drawing neighbors. A dinner featured stew and chicken while ex teachers spoke and Judge Janssen recounted the school’s history. The American Legion Band performed, a bazaar thrived, and 200 tickets sold for a dance ending in $370 gross receipts.

Pioneer Frank Stahala Dies in Yoakum at 75
Frank Joseph Stahala, 75 years and 27 days, died after a lingering illness in Yoakum on Tuesday, August 1. A native of Czechoslovakia he came to Texas in 1880 and lived in Yoakum 38 years. Survived by his widow, six sons Richard Wichita Falls Adolph Chicago John Edward Milton and others, four daughters, two in Drumwright and Yoakum, and 11 grandchildren. Funeral was held August 2 from the family residence with burial in Yoakum Catholic Cemetery.

Charles Alexander Buried in Houston Last Thursday
Charles Alexander, 64, manager of the Alexander Grocery Company branch house at Flatino, died at the family home in LaGrange Tuesday night August 2. Funeral services were held in LaGrange and the body was taken to Houston for interment in Beth Israel cemetery. He was well known in Moulton. Surviving are his widow, one brother and five sisters.

Five constitutional amendments will be placed before Texas voters in a special election Saturday August 26 The proposals include repealing the Eighteenth Amendment legalizing up to 8 2 percent alcohol goods authorizing up to 20 million in bonds for relief funding exempting homesteads to 3000 from taxation and letting counties over 62000 adopt home rule charters Also expanded voting rights remove poll tax receipts for those 21 and older since 1932 and for seniors over 60 since 1932.
