Olympia Theater to resume showing with new talking equipment. Hoot Gibson stars in The Long Long Trail along with a two reel comedy. Admission 10 and 25 cents. Wednesday and Thursday feature all talking features and comedies.
Mrs. J. A. Cinadr hosted the Bridge Club last Thursday afternoon. Erwin Oehl took guest high score and received a bath mat while Erna Kotzebue earned a box of handkerchiefs for guest high score. Luncheon included cake and peach ice cream with lemon drop favors. Mrs. O A Darilek was elected president in Mrs. Oehl’s absence.
The American Legion Band of Moulton will furnish music for the state convention of the American Legion in Austin during the first week of September. The group recently performed at Rockdale and at Legion events, contributing to keeping the town in the public eye.
The Olympia Theater will reopen on Saturday August 2 after installing a complete new system. It is owned and operated by Messrs Ir Wilks and Emil Grunwald.
The Dickson school board re elected Jerome Koelan as principal and Edwin J Richter as assistant for the upcoming term. Board members include Joe J Krejer Joe K Darilek and Emil Jaroszewski.
The Democratic primary at Moulton drew 686 votes with officers listed as William Hillmer presiding judge and judges John Freytag Lee Bunting Albert Pustejovsky Geo von Lienen John Reindl and F L Filipp as clerks. Counts are given for US Senator Governor Lieutenant Governor Attorney General Comptroller Treasurer State Superintendent Agriculture Land Office Railroad Commissioner Chief Justice and many county and precinct offices with the largest totals for State Superintendent Marrs 675 and Legislature Olsen 462.
After a brief visit with friends in Lubbock Mrs Stude man Love departed for San Antonio on Tuesday leaving observers to note the change in plans and destination for the traveler.
A total of 6 377 Lavacaites voted in the democratic primary on Saturday July 26. County commissioner races in Precincts 2 and 6 show Kubenka Moulton 211 Novohrad 125 Oak Grove 51 Moravia 280 Hackberry 40 total 717 for the first slate. Mladenka Moulton 275 Novohrad 2 Oak Grove 50 Moravia 99 Hackberry 91 total 517. Neskorik Moulton 186 Novohrad 14 Oak Grove 34 Moravia 25 Hackberry 16 total 275.
The Texas Election Bureau in Dallas reports 758,163 votes counted by 6 PM Tuesday out of an estimated 800,000 as the governor leads in early tabulation.
Miss Edna Reischl returned from Shiner where the P T A. urged her first grade rhythm band to perform in Here Comes Arabella. The Little Sousas in red and white uniforms drew applause, and are noted as Lavaca county’s only first grade rhythm band aside from Yoakum schools.
A large crowd at a Sweet Home Catholic church welcomed Rev. Marcus Valenta after his ordination and years of study in Rome. Archbishop Cros saerts clergy and relatives attended a home reception at Mrs. Margaret Valenta’s residence with a sumptuous dinner. Rev. Valenta will assist Rev. Feeney at St. Ann's in San Antonio.
Public Weigher Charles Welff reports that 45 bales of new cotton had been marketed in Moulton up to 8 p.m. Wednesday July 30.
Mr and Mrs Frank Wagner of Henkhous are the proud parents of a daughter born Friday July 25. The infant bears the name Eugena Marie.
A birthday party at Mr. and Mrs. Leo Jaroszewski celebrated Mrs. Jaroszewski's 43rd birthday. A large crowd attended with singing and conversation. Out of town guests included Representative R. A. Fuchs and family, Rein hart Jaroszewski, Brenham, and the Schmidt and Dagg families from Yoakum.
Mrs. Robert Albrecht and Mrs. Perry Wendtland of Yoakum visited in Moulton Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Mueller of Houston were in Moulton last weekend visiting home folks. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Madgett of Houston spent Monday and Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Jaeggi.
Mrs. Sam Jaeggli and children and Mrs. Edwin Jaeggi departed for San Antonio and Kerrville on Wednesday. Mrs. Rudolph Roeder and Mrs. Charles Schindler of Schulenburg visited the F. Wilks home on Tuesday.
Mr and Mrs William Woehler Jr of this city and Mr and Mrs Gus Pfeil and baby of Shiner spent Sunday in Houston.
Mrs J W Nachlinger of Taylor spent Sunday with her parents Mr and Mrs G J Bohnenkamp. Her sons Kimo and Lester who had been here for some time returned home with her.
Mr Henry Fehrenkamp and family Mr Louis Fehrenkamp and family Mrs Ad Nachlinger and children and Allyne and Adolph Niebuhr visited in Hallettsville Sunday.
William and Gus Wachtendorf of Eldorado Schleicher County were in Moulton in the latter part of last week visiting their parents Mr and Mrs Henry Wachtendorf.
Clarence Knape and sister Winnie with Annie Laurie Jaeg gli spent Sunday in San Antonio. Weldon Knape, who spent three weeks there, returned home with them.
Mr and Mrs Louis Fehrenkamp and daughter Mabel Marie Mrs Henry Fehrenkamp and children Lucile and Edward Henry and Norma Wachtendorf were in Yoakum last Friday.
Mrs. J. W. Schindler and her son William, from Marlin, left the Hillsmer home to travel to San Antonio on Wednesday of last week to visit relatives before returning home.
Josie Lee Hajek celebrated her ninth birthday on Thursday afternoon July 24 hosted by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Hajek. Guests enjoyed refreshments of ice cream cake and sandwiches.
The Lavaca County Democratic Convention will be held at the Hallettsville courthouse on Saturday August 2 at 2 oclock in the afternoon.
Moulton welcomed its first bale of the 19380 cotton crop on Thursday July 24 raised by Frank K. Hrnck and ginned by F. J. Kubenka of Kamensky. It weighed 624 pounds sold at 17.5 cents per pound to R. B. Papacek. The second bale weighed 622 pounds brought by Theodore Joost of Witting and sold to Rud Jaeggi & Bro at 12.5 cents per pound.
J. H. Heye and Charles Fertsch of Hallettsville spoke at the Legion Hall urging R. S Sterling as Texas governor nominee. Audience gave close attention as F. T. Fehrenkamp presided as local chairman.
The pool on the lake Kurtz place about five miles south of Moulton under construction should be ready mid August. It will measure 50 feet wide and 315 feet long. Mr Kurtz recently finished a sulphur water well over 700 feet deep wishing him success.
Moulton residents sent postal card greetings to The Eagle from across the country. Among those sending were Mr. V. Boehm and daughters from Carlsbad New Mexico and Mr. and Mrs. Elo Fehrenkamp from Hot Springs National Park Arkansas. The greetings were highly appreciated by the office force.
Geier Merrem Post No 392 American Legion holds its regular meeting Tuesday night August 5. The American Legion Auxiliary also meets on the same night.
