Veteran test pilot Gene May flew a new skyrocket jet at speeds exceeding 750 miles per hour near Muroc Dry Lake. He described the test as casual, wearing a red crash helmet, and performed two low passes over the course with rocket engines firing on the second run. Navy officials cited speeds above sound, while observers could not verify exact figures due to censorship.
