X-Ray Unit Comes to Lavaca County for Free Screenings

An organization formed in Hallettsville to bring the State TB X-Ray Unit to Lavaca County towns including Shiner Hallettsville Moulton and Yoakum. The program offers free screenings for ages fifteen and up with rapid two minute X rays and aims to test about 1500 people daily. The effort is led by County Judge Paul Fertsch and Geier Merrem Post No. 392 American Legion with co chairmen Joe Petrek Basil Bell.

The Austin Women’s American Legion Post endorses Frances Goss for State Commander. She is the first woman to receive such endorsement, a former Austin post commander and current assistant budget director of the State Board of Control.

Legion Convention Attended by Geier-Merrem Post at Bellville

Geier-Merrem Post No. 392 American Legion sent Ernest Novosad Edward Batey George J. Migl Alfred Proske and William Miculka post commander to the district convention in Bellville. About 400 to 500 delegates attended with principal speakers Congressman Clark W. Thompson of Galveston and State Commander Joe Spurlock of Fort Worth. The next convention is planned for Wharton in October.

Mr and Mrs Lester Schaefer of Moulton welcomed a son at Shiner Hospital on a Thursday in April. The infant weighed eleven pounds four ounces at birth.

Mrs. John N. Meneley of Gonzales announces the birth of daughter Karen Elaine at Helms Hospital Saturday night April 8. The baby weighed nine pounds nine ounces and is the granddaughter of the late John N Meneley and Mr. and Mrs Henry Butschek of Moulton.

Tri-County Baseball Series Opens Sunday at VFW Diamond

Moulton Chamber Elects New Officers At Meeting

The Moulton Chamber of Commerce held its regular meeting at Moulton High School Gym. Directors elected for the coming year include Joe H. Vanham and W. H. Pundt. New officers named are Roy L. Kotzebue as first vice president William Miculka as second vice president Alton Halliburton as treasurer and W. H. Pundt re elected secretary manager.

Moulton Seeks Revenue Bonds for Sewer System

The city urges voters to approve Revenue Bonds on April 29 to fund a sanitary sewer system. The bonds would be repaid from Light and Sewer revenue with no tax levy. Outstanding Light System Bonds would be paid off after the new bonds are issued. bids will seek construction of the sewer system.

Boy Scout Camp Begins Saturday Night

A Boy Scout Camp will be held beginning April 22 on the Dr Martin Wagner farm between Hallettsville and Shiner. Scouts from Lavaca Gonzales and DeWitt counties are invited to attend.

Gonzales Cotton Mill Resumes Operation

The Gonzales Cotton Mill despite a shutdown since June has reset production. It employs 57 workers now with about 200 expected at full capacity and will manufacture Osnaburg ducking and duck.

Mouton Sees 2.10 Inches Rainfall This Weekend

Beneficial rains totaling 2.10 inches fell Sunday and Monday at Mouton. Farmers can now complete planting crops and ranchers have water for livestock, easing early season concerns in the parish.

Mil dred Krejci and Joseph Janak wed in a Tuesday morning ceremony at St. Joseph Catholic Church Moulton. The bride wore a white satin gown with lace and orange blossoms, and carried Easter Lilies. Attendants included maid of honor Emily Krejer and bridesmaids Bernadette Janak Irene Janak Evelyn Pilsner. groom’s party featured Edward Krejc Ernest Janak Max Tieken. After a day reception the couple planned to reside near Hallettsville following a trip to New Mexico.

J F Bozka Buried At Shiner Monday

Joseph F Bozka 61 prominent Hallettsville business man died of a heart attack at his home in Hallettsville on Saturday April 15. Funeral services were held Monday at Sacred Heart Church Hallettsville and burial followed in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. He was a veteran of WWI and served as Lavaca County clerk for eighteen years. Surviving are his widow a daughter a son a brother two sisters and his father.
