Local Talent Play Draws Large Crowds in Moulton

Local talent in Moulton presented The Womanless Wedding under PTA sponsorship at the school auditorium Friday and Saturday. Both showings sold out with standing room, drawing around $170 in proceeds. The production featured numerous roles and a Virginia Reel finale with music from the Boursville school orchestra and local violin and guitar players.

Legislature Meets in Special Session at Austin

The 41st Legislature convened in special session at Austin on April 22. Governor Moody submitted measures on civil service prison relocation and the state board of education, with other topics to follow such as automobile registration fees and a gasoline tax.

Reinhold Warneke Killed In Accident Near Smithville

Reinhold Warneke of Austin died April 17 from an accidental fall from a railway bridge near Smithville where he and fellow workers had been employed. Funeral held April 18 at Oak Hill Cemetery Smithville. Born April 15 1874 at High Hill Fayette county he was 55. Survived by wife two daughters one son three brothers Willie Louis Arthur and a sister Mrs F Priesmeyer. Several relatives from Shiner attended the funeral.

Memorial Services at Baursville Lutheran Cemetery

Memorial services were held Sunday at Baursville Lutheran cemetery with Prof. R. F. Smothers giving the address Rev. A. H. Falkenberg delivering the sermon Winnie Knape reading and the Baursville harmonica band performing. The graves were decorated with many beautiful and rare flowers.

The Luther League of Moulton held a Monday evening party at the Boursville church for the 1929 confirmation class. Guests enjoyed games and refreshments as they spent a delightful evening together.

Lavaca County Court Hears Hutton Murder Sentence

The Lavaca county district court closed its spring term with Alec Hutton given a four year penitentiary sentence for the murder of Mrs. Willie Hester. Hutton overruled motion for a new trial and gave notice of appeal.

The Boursville P T A held a surprise infused meeting on Wednesday night April 17 with a chicken supper, music from the school orchestra and Harmonica band, and a talk by Rev. A H Falkenberg of the Moulton Lutheran church. W H Turk of Hallettsville endorsed the remarks and a business session followed. The group voted to offer a prize to the top pupil in each grade next year to boost attendance and learning and plans to continue summer meetings.

Melvin Leazar and Beta Hambursky were married at the Erwin home in San Antonio on Tuesday April 16 with Rev J M Carrol of the Baptist church officiating. The groom is the son of Mr and Mrs Smith Leazar of Moulton. The bride is a popular San Antonio young woman. They will reside in San Antonio where Mr Leazar holds a lucrative bank position.

Gonzales County Forms Good Roads Association

At a well attended Gonzales gathering last Wednesday the Gonzales County Good Roads Association was organized. A bond issue of 2 million dollars to build state highways and about 210 miles of lateral roads is advocated. Speakers included R S Sterling and W O Huggins. J C Romberg named temporary chairman and C E Bradley elected secretary. Vice chairmen were chosen from every precinct.

Auxiliary Dairy Association Organized

At the American Legion hall on Wednesday night April 17 an auxiliary to the Contented Counties Dairy Association was formed. The parent group organized at Schulenburg earlier in the week. Smith Leazar opened the meeting and F T Fehrenkamp explained the purpose. Victor Fehrenkamp acted as secretary pro tem. Twenty three men signed the membership list with more to join. No dues or obligations are required beyond assisting dairy herd improvement locally. Fehrenkamp to appoint local chairmen soon.

Joe Pavias of near Oak Grove sold 456 dozen eggs in March for 10032 dollars. He owns 200 hens and the average lay per hen was 27 eggs for March.
