Old Lawrence and Oakville Reminiscences in 19th Century
The piece recalls Oakville Lawrence County life before the war, praising community standards, domestic virtue, and local figures like John Kitchens and Darius Lynch. It contrasts past wives and mothers with rising tensions over women in work, notes Mowrie’s Mount isolation, and ends with publishers' note on old papers and a flirtation with a poem from the era.
